About Iacopo

My name is Iacopo P.
I am a native speaker of English with an Italian background.

With a Master's of Arts in English Literature, minoring in Italian literature, philosophy, American and European history, and Art History, I have a solid background in humanities.

I have a ten-year experience teaching English, Italian, and literature to students of all ages and backgrounds. Through the years, I have developed my own teaching methods, which got rid of all what is unessential when teaching and learning; my methods, then, bring to the students to learning not only the subject in question, but also to develop efficient and personal study routines.

The subjects I have taught so far are, in order of frequency: English,Writing and Creative Writing, Italian, TOEFL preparation, English Literature, Italian Literature, Speech, Dialectic and Rhetoric (this is a course I have implemented and created and which is quite unique in its genre, as it brings a student to speaking in a public or private context according to the rhetorical rules of the greatest ancient speakers from the Greek and Latin world), Philosophy, History, Art History.

To conclude, I am a passionate and learned individual whose mission is to spread knowledge in a punctual, reliable, professional, and confident way.

This is what I would personally look for in a teacher.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

As an English language instructor, I have developed and implemented a five-lesson intensive seminar where I teach advanced and native speakers of English how to speak in public. Particularly, the course is based on certain classical rules of rhetoric and dialectic as theorized by the most famous ancient Greek and Latin masters of speech and thought and other philosophers and linguists: Aristotle, Plato, Sophocles, Cicero, Schopenhauer, Umberto Eco, etc.

It took me an entire year of intense study and preparation to prepare this course and, especially, the practical application of many of the rules.

My experience teaching public speaking was made in the various institutes where I have taught. The most common requirement was for me to teach "job interviews preparation".

Study Skills

During the many years as a learner, first, and as a teacher/tutor then, I have developed very effective study methods which I have always tried to pass on to all my students.

My methods are especially recommended for the study of a foreign language (particularly English and Italian), literature, philosophy, and history.

My methods also include time management when studying, and how to create links and connections between different subjects which have aspects in common.

I also teach my students some very simple but effective memorization techniques, which can come in handy for many contexts in school and life.

I have played tennis since I was six years old. Although I have never played as a professional, I have developed very good technical skills, since I started playing at a very young age. I have privately taught many students (mostly adults) who wanted to begin playing tennis during the last four years, especially in the summer period. I don't have a certification as a tennis coach, but my experience and passion for this sport enable me to be confident and at ease teaching beginners and players who want to improve their technique.

Track & Field

I did track and field since I was seven until the age of 20. At 17 years old, I became a semi-professional athlete specializing in long jump and triple jump. Training everyday, studying, and working in close cooperation with a private coach for all those years, I was able to learn and understand how to set a proper training schedule for all the following activities: long jump, triple jump, 400m hurdles, 100/110m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m.
