Smith College (Biochemistry)
Since I first began tutoring in college, I have found such gratification in helping students achieve new levels of understanding and success with their studies.
Throughout college, I worked as an America Reads tutor with high school students in such subjects as English and US History and spent my summers as an aid for programs that served autistic and special needs students. In 2012, I received the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Educational Outreach Fellowship, which allowed me to design and teach a lesson for a 7th grade biology course. Most recently, I have been working with students in New York public and private schools and served as a private tutor for a high school freshman in the subjects of biology, geometry, and world history, and also worked with a high school junior, assisting her with her physics and English courses. I know the patience, creativity, encouragement, and persistence needed to motivate students to achieve their best.
As I was a biochemistry major and history minor at Smith College, I have a great understanding of analytical, quantitative thinking as well as excellent writing skills. I specialize in tutoring Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, English literature, English Composition, and European and World History. I also greatly enjoy helping students with their college search and academic organizational skills.
I currently work as a biomedical researcher at a medical college in Manhattan, so my hours of availability are limited to evenings and weekends. However, I am very flexible with which days of the week I am available, and would love to meet with any interested students for a free consultation. I look forward to hearing from you soon! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied biochemistry in my undergraduate studies, which included studies in genetics. I now work at Weill Cornell Medical College in the department of Genetic Medicine. I apply genetics and molecular biology on a daily basis in my work in the lab and often have to explain the theory of certain projects to new lab personnel.
I have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, which required me to take many organic chemistry courses including organic chemistry I & II, biochemistry I & II, the biochemistry of modern diseases, and bio-organic chemistry. Since completing my undergraduate degree, I worked at Cornell Medical School as a researcher, applying my knowledge of organic chemistry to my everyday methodologies. In the past year, I began graduate school in nutrition science and have taken nutritional biochemistry. In the realm of tutoring, I have tutored advanced high school chemistry, which often introduces organic chemistry and also tutored undergraduate students in biochemistry.
