About Tammy

Hello,

My name is Tammy. I have been teaching since 2005 which will soon mark a 10 year anniversary for teaching both Special Education and General Education. I am certified in a few states to work with Students with Disabilities/Special Education, and Elementary students from Birth through 3rd grade. However, I have also gained experience working with the upper grades students from 4th -8th grades while working with the Department of Education, and homeschooling student grades 6th, 7th. and 8th.

I hold a Masters in Education and Special Education, and a Bachelors in Psychology. A huge part of my services has been geared toward teaching Special Education and providing Interventions to struggling students. However, I am also available to tutor General Education and Homeschooling students. I also have experience in working with children on the autism spectrum, and have experience in Applied Behavioral Analysis techniques.

My philosophy about teaching and learning is “Each child learn in his or her own very unique way, it just takes being paired with the right person, with the right information, that can have a great impact on that students life.”
My experience and tutoring strategy includes mini-lesson instruction through repetitions. This is the most simplistic way for students to gain an understanding of the concept/skill being taught to him or her. It is my passion to create a warm and friendly sessions that is conducive to a more productive learning session.

I look forward to hearing from you soon, to further discuss the tutoring adventure.

Thank you!
Tammy

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have worked with students on the spectrum using Applied Behavioral Analysis, while using repetitions when teaching them skills.

I have a Master in Special Education and Education. I am also trained by a Board Certified Supervisors in using A.B.A. strategies and program development using the DAY-C and ABLLS-R.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching for almost a decade. Within my teaching experience, I have worked closely with students on reading interventions, math and science. I have also worked with students on math, and science.

I am state certified to teach students with disabilities and up to grade 3. Experience in grades 4-8 has been obtained via experience with the D.O.E. and homeschooling teaching.

Phonics

I hold a Masters in Special Education and Education in which teaching reading was a component of my pedagogy experiences.

Students who have a solid foundation in phonics become better readers, spellers, and are at better at decoding words.

Special Needs

Special Needs Children learn in various way. All they need is someone who understand various ways to engage them in learning and retaining the information that is being taught. With years and years of working with students with disabilities, I have learned different strategies in helping them grasp the skills concept.
