I am an enthusiastic tutor with over 20 years experience teaching and tutoring reading, writing, math, science and social studies for K-6th grades, English, history and French for middle and high school students, and ISEE Lower Level Test Prep. I have a Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Bank Street College of Education and a BA from Brown University. I have taught all grades from Kindergarten to 4th and have tutored students in 1st through 12th grades. I have experience working with students from private, public and charter schools and with a broad range of learning differences and styles. I love children and make learning fun.

Through informal assessments, I develop a customized plan that addresses your child's strengths, interests and needs. I offer remediation and enrichment to address each child's differing needs and to enhance their learning, and I use a wide variety of developmentally-appropriate resources, methodologies and activities to help each student achieve success.

MATH - I teach elementary math (K-6th) through the use of fun activities and games. I will make sure your child has an in-depth understanding of the abstract concepts behind the operations, and that what they are learning connects to their lives and their interests. I have a large variety of manipulatives and games for all abilities and ages.
READING - I have taught many non-readers how to read, and have improved the reading of many beginning and more advanced readers, both in terms of fluency and comprehension. My approach is eclectic, with a strong emphasis on phonics when necessary. I use a wide variety of methodologies and materials in my tutoring, including phonics cards and books, but I also use literature, kinesthesia, games and fun! Concurrently with teaching reading, I teach writing and handwriting.
READING COMPREHENSION - I teach students how to get the main idea from a passage, how to understand what they have read, how to analyze and look deeper into the material, how to underline, and how to take notes and review, and how to use resources such as a dictionary, a thesaurus and the Internet.
WRITING - I teach students correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as how to improve their writing, how to organize and outline their thoughts, how to expand and how to edit.
