My name is Tara and I am an award-winning writer, teacher, tutor and an illustrator.
I also have a background in professional, New York theatre and film/TV production.
I am engaging, creative, nurturing, love to laugh and believe in making learning a vibrant and accessible experience for all different types of learners. To this end, I have studied the theory of Multiple Intelligences and believe in valididating each student as both a learner and an artist.
I have over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience from Kindergarten through college age, as well as adult learners. I have worked in many private and public schools throughout New York and New Jersey, as well as for the New York Public Library and many summer camps. Workshops I have taught and developed include: visual art, creative writing, combining visual art with creative writing (poetry comics) literacy, theatre, creative movement and video for regular education, gifted and talented, ESL/ELL/Bilingual and special needs students ages two and up. I have also partnered with classroom teachers to co-teach academic subjects, integrating the arts and The Theory of Multiple Intelligences into the curriculum, thus enhancing, enriching and supporting classroom study.
My tutoring focus revolves around study and organizational skills, writing, reading, writing college application essays, English/AP English, cartooning, and more.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a professional, award-winning writer, I have assisted students with both college and graduate school application essays.
I have also assisted students with reviewing potential colleges, have helped them to practice interviewing skills and also to think critically about what they want from an education and what college is a good potential fit. I do this by assisting them in reviewing their choices as well as making suggestions and also asking them to make notes, ask questions and review catalogs and other materials.
