Stephanie is an excellent tutor: she is patient and encouraging. Stephanie is prompt, reliable, organized and personable. She is knowledgeable of Orton Gillingham method and keeps my child focused and on task. In addition to her lesson, she plays Greek / Latin flash card game for the end of the lesson for a fun activity. Stephanie is sweet and I recommend her as a tutor.
My daughter has to write 5 reflections this summer. In one session she has already almost finalised one reflection and has a schedule to meet with Stephanie to finalize the remaining 4.
Stephanie has tutored my 12 year old in grammar, geography and math. She has a warm and patient disposition and seems to explain concepts thoroughly.
My 13 year old son has some of the same reading, tracking, processing issues as seen in Dyslexic children yet without the diagnosis. Stephanie's tutoring has captured my son's attention as well as his curiosity in understanding what he needs to do to be a better reader, and for that I am truly grateful!
Stephanie conducts her sessions in a very professional manner without my daughter feeling intimidated or feeling like she is in class. She is very happy with the tutoring sessions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in human resources where I have reviewed and evaluated several resumes and cover letters. I also volunteer for FEGS, an organization that helps unemployed people on public assistance find jobs. I help these clients prepare resumes, write cover letters, search for jobs, and fill out applications. I also work with several high school students and help them create resumes for college and summer jobs.
I completed a 30 hour course in the Orton-Gillingham method of reading, writing, and spelling. The O-G approach is based on phonics and builds to reading, writing, and spelling. This method is widely recognized as a successful tool for helping dyslexic students overcome their challenges.
I am a licensed teacher currently working in a charter school in Brooklyn. I teach math, reading & writing, art, and study skills. I have tutored students in K-5th grade. I have specialized in the Orton-Gillingham method for reading & writing.
I have taken three in person, hands on, multi sensory trainings for developing handwriting in students through handwriting without tears. The first training was geared toward preschool students to help build basic fine motor skills and concepts of identifying and building letters. The second training included print and cursive for grades k-5 using various multi sensory techniques. The third training prepared me to asses student handwriting samples and prepare individual intervention plans for each student. I have also studied Zaner Bloser and D'Nealian handwriting styles.

This multi-sensory approach is helpful by using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods to teach students with learning differences.
As a former teacher, I have developed effective systems for students to organize their work, set short and long term goals, and prioritize their assignments. These habits are transferable across subjects and grades and will be useful as students progress into high school and college. Good study skills are an important part of managing one's education.
