Hello! My name is Jeremy, and I am offering piano lessons using techniques that will help your playing feel easy and natural.
While I am also a performer and have been heard by audiences across Australia, Canada, Austria and the United States, I find teaching piano to be very rewarding.
Originally from Australia, I came to New York to study the Taubman Approach to piano playing with it's leading exponent, Edna Golandsky.
The Taubman Approach is a body knowledge that gives the pianist tools in which to fully express themselves at the piano in a healthful, co-ordinate way, and is sought after by professional pianists as well as anyone at any stage in their training alike.
It first came about by studying the underlying movements of what goes on in virtuoso playing in child prodigies. These movements have also proven to be able to relieve people out of playing-related fatigue, pain, and even serious injuries.
I am someone who has benefited immensely from learning this technique and am currently in the teacher certification program, administered by the Golandsky Institute.
I am a soon to be master's candidate at the Manhattan School of Music and am currently a staff pianist with the New York Opera Exchange and with the voice department at Queens College. I am an encouraging, friendly teacher that is looking for students both young and young-at-heart, and of all abilities. Whether you are just starting, re-starting, or need help in finding answers to your playing-related fatigue, pain or injury, I would like to offer you my time and expertise! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing piano for over twenty years and have performed all over Australia, Austria, Canada and the United States. I have nine years of teaching experience and am currently in Teacher Training Certification Program at the Golandsky Institute to formalize my training as a piano teacher in the Taubman Approach, learning how to teach students how to play healthily in order for them to fully express themselves. I have a Bachelor of Music (piano performance major) from Queens College and will be commencing my Masters of Music at the Manhattan School of Music in Fall 2014.
