I graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences and a concentration in Neurobiology and Behavior. I am also an aspiring Neurosurgeon. I have vast experience as a full time tutor and have worked with students in numerous subject areas from elementary Math to graduate level Biology.
Over the years, I have worked with a number of academic assistance groups including the Advancement Via Individual Determination High School Program and the Cornell University Learning Strategy Center. I have tutored a broad range of subjects including Elementary/High School Mathematics and SAT prep and admit to having a special place in my heart for the sciences especially Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics.
As a person with a special interest in the arts, I believe that education is integral to the appreciation of life especially when molded to best fit the learner. My approach to tutoring is structured with a number of guiding principles. I believe in helping the student discover his/her learning style and helping in the formation of associations between subject material and real world scenarios. At the heart of my tutoring is the desire to inspire. No matter how hard things may seem, with quality assistance nothing is beyond a willing mind. I love playing and listening to music and I am also a big sports fan. Learning should always be fun so let's get started! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a Biological Sciences major at Cornell, I took both introductory and higher lever coursework in Genetics. I also took a lab course concentrating on fly and bacteria genetics. I have in-depth understanding in basic and higher lever genetics and enjoy teaching it!
