Although I'm originally from New York, I have spent nearly three and a half years of my life in East and Southeast Asia. I have studied abroad in Tokyo and Hong Kong, and taught English in a private school in Jakarta, Indonesia and in a public middle school with sixty students per class in Shenzhen, China.
In Jakarta, I taught many facets of English with Berlitz language schools. The number of students per class, English language knowledge and age of the students varied greatly; generally it would be a 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 session, which is optimal for both the student and myself. Students that are ordinarily too shy to ask questions in a large group setting, particularly in a public school, are able feel confident in expressing their concerns or questions.
Additionally, as the class size increases the disparity in language capacity increases as well, thus in smaller sessions, students with more of an advanced understanding of English will not need to feel bored or unproductive. This is another luxury of being enrolled in a language school, or hiring a tutor.
Berlitz offered course books for nearly every level, with books covering the range of true and false beginners (a false beginner being someone who might know more than he/she cares to admit, or someone who has at some point picked up basic phrases) to business-focused dialogue.
I too, have been and continue to be a student of foreign languages. They are of great interest to me, and although my native language is English, I can speak Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Indonesian to varying degrees, in addition to being able to read Korean and Russian.
Additionally, I maintain two personal travel and food blogs.
Thank you for your consideration.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While in high school, I tutored Spanish-speaking elementary school students in oral English and basic math.
From 2006-2007 in Shenzhen, China, I taught ESL at a public middle school. Each of my fourteen weekly classes had roughly sixty students.
In 2008, I worked as an English instructor at Berlitz in Jakarta, Indonesia, working with student of different ages, backgrounds and levels of spoken English.
