Columbia University (English)
I employ traditional tutoring plus creative approaches for each student, whether that is conversation centering on certain topics, or specific, outside-the-box reading focused on an area of special interest.
A Columbia University honors graduate, whose father and grandfather were English professors, I have 15 years experience teaching English to students from all over the world.
I teach correct English first, but also slang and informal English when called for (don't tell my dad). My specialty is pronunciation-- pronunciation which will get you understood by Americans. At the same time, you will build vocabulary and grammar proficiency-- and have a lot of fun doing it!
I have always enjoyed the interaction with students of different cultures, especially watching them improve week by week. Of course I also teach Americans, particularly for developing and/or re-writing high school and college students' papers. (If I help you re-write a paper, your grade will go up :)
I work on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, with very easy access to the #6 train, and more and more on Skype (which works very well for this, better than one might imagine, and amazingly convenient).
For in-person lessons, non-smokers only, please. I employ traditional tutoring plus creative approaches for each student, whether that is conversation centering on certain topics, or specific, outside-the-box reading focused on an area of special interest.

Fantastic tutor that we will use again. He knows English well and my son enjoyed his company. He was spontaneous when we needed help before an exam.
I have met several English tutors during my English learning journey (it's been several years but It's still on-going), and JB is definitely the best tutor. He has helped me to improve my English skill with various real-life examples. I see myself getting better everyday. JB has me write notes with tons of English questions, which boosts my level of proficiency. He is also humorous and easy-going. If you want to meet a quality tutor, don't hesitate to jump start with JB!
I highly recommend JB because he is helpful, professional and very intelligent. Besides all of the described above, he is very fun to work with. JB is a very nice and understanding person. His deep knowledge in English has helped me improve my reading and writing skills. With his guidance I know I will score the perfect grade!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a competitive swimmer in junior high and high school. I was a New York State lifeguard in the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps. I have also taught many adults and kids how to swim.
