UCSD- Revelle (Human biology)
Columbia University (Master's)
Hello! My name is Katherine, and I would love the chance to help you understand your science courses. In 2013 I completed my B.S. at UCSD with a 3.98 major GPA. As a pre-med student, I took the MCAT and scored a 14/15 on the biological sciences (biology and organic chemistry) portion and a 12/15 on the physical sciences (chemistry and physics). I am now a master's candidate at Columbia University, where I have received a 4.0 in my first two semesters.
Aside from school, I have studied cardiovascular disease in a stem cell lab at UCSD School of Medicine, and also worked on a Phase I/II clinical trial that used genetic engineering to make patient's own cells attack their cancer!
Through studies at UCSD and Columbia, I have developed a unique approach to learning. I believe establishing a strong foundational understanding of science is paramount to catalyze success in subsequent biological courses.
I have tutored for about two years now, and have found that it is a passion of mine. I have been told that my explanations are straight-forward and comprehensive. Ultimately, I would love to help others find affinity for this field by showing them science from a new perspective. Hello! Katherine is a phenomenal tutor; I would recommend her to anyone who is struggling with any kind of chemistry/biology-related course. She is very sweet, kind, patient, and I was very impressed with her knowledge of the subject (she helped me with Organic Chemistry-- I think that speaks for itself). Even though I was not within her driving distance, she suggested meeting up half way at a Starbucks (It really gave me the impression she was willing to go out of her way to help me, and was very eager to assist me at the same time). Katherine is great at explaining difficult concepts in ways you can really understand. She is very energetic and enthusiastic when she teaches, and it makes the subject very fun to learn. She really helped turn my grade around, and she even let me borrow one of her textbooks! Katherine is the only tutor that I will go to on this website, and I can’t wait to schedule my next appointment with her! She also responds very quickly to emails! Another plus!
Katherine was a wonderful tutor! She really knows her stuff and is very patient. She was able to explain different concepts in a way in which I could understand. I really appreciate her patience and her help. I would definitely recommend anyone struggling with Organic Chemistry to get tutoring from Katherine. Thanks!
Katherine is respected by our son as she has a knack for articulating the subject matter clearly and in an interesting manner. We are glad to have her on our team!
Katherine is a great help for me during this Summer 2013 semester for biological, inorganic/organic Chemistry. I'm a working mom, no downtime and each time I needed help on my homework, lab report and math calculations Katherine is always there for me even on a short notice, even late nights and or meeting somewhere else like Starbucks. She is very flexible which for me it helps tremendously.
Its been years since I took Chemistry...But Katherine is able to convey the concepts of chemistry over again to my head quickly. She is very smart and knowledgeable on the subject. Her ability to explain the subject gives me a great understanding and help me achieve an excellent grade results. Thank You Katherine!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified for genetics because I have taken upper division genetics at UCSD and received an A. I also have taken molecular biology and other relevant courses. Furthermore, I have experience with many molecular lab techniques in genetic manipulation, so I can provide real life examples. I love this area of biology, and I would be elated to help anyone master it!
I am qualified to tutor in Nutrition because I took a Metabolic/Clinical upper division Nutrition course at UCSD and received an A+. Nutrition is one of my favorite aspects of human physiology, and I would love the opportunity to tutor it!
I completed the organic chemistry series at UCSD and the o.chem lab with straight A's. I love the subject, and found that it changed my approach to school as I believe a thorough understanding of organic chemistry is essential for future success in biology. I helped my roommate as a tutor for her last two quarters in Organic Chemistry and she was much more successful.
