City College of New York (Mathematics, minor in Compsci)
I'd love to empower you (or your child) in the area of math: turning it from a weakness to a strength, and learning to LOVE the subject. My students have reported thinking about daily-life problems in a mathematical way -- a marked change from how they used to relate to math, with frustration and resignation. As a result, students' performance in school shifts dramatically.
About me: I study mathematics at the City College of New York -- math is my passion. I have four years of tutoring experience, mostly with high-school and middle-school aged children (some experience with college and elementary school students).
My current studies are in abstract algebra and cryptography.
Any mathematician will tell you (s)he studies math because math is beautiful. My mission is for the students I work with to newly discover the beauty of mathematics for themselves. Hello!

$38 is if we're closely located. If travel time is over 30 mins for me, I charge $48.
James explains issues very efficiently and clearly. He built up to complex (to me) math concepts by starting systematically with simpler ones, and checked continually that I understood. He also prepared a "cheat sheet" and reference for the future. What a gem!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've tutored three students for a whole year of algebra 2, and have studied and enjoyed math my whole life; I love to share that
In my own studies in higher level math, a very solid understanding of calculus is required. In addition to that, I also regularly tutor students in calculus, so I have experience teaching the material as well.
Geometry is one of my favorite topics. More than any other area, studying geometry really teaches students how to apply logic and how to think like a mathematician.
I've tutored geometry at multiple levels. My most recent personal work in geometry was in hyperbolic geometry / the Poincare Upper Half-plane.
