Hello! I am a professional educator, actor, writer and teaching artist. My experience has allowed me to develop a unique teaching approach that engages and inspires students. By incorporating theater (acting, playwriting and movement) with Common Core Standards to teach English Language Arts and writing, I design lesson plans that are fun, clear and interactive for elementary, middle and high school students. I have 12 years of experience working with students with a variety of learning dispositons: ESL, ELL, Learning Differences, and Gifted and Talented. I am also bi-lingual, teaching both in Spanish and English.
In addition to my work with students in academic subjects, I have many years of experience mentoring high school students in various aspects of the college admission process. In particular, I have guided them through the processes of conceiving, writing and revising their college admissions essays. Many of my students have gained admissions to some of the nation's leading undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.
My teaching philosophy is simple: listen and respond. I am patient, encouraging, flexible, and tailor lessons according to what I judge best for your learning and progress. I look forward to when you are no longer in need of my services. Then, I have done my job.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently work with immigrant students and immerse them in English through the use of comic books. It's a fun way to learn language, sentence structure, grammar and even slang (colloquial speech). I use the direct method- the students speak through repetition, and grasp meaning using the comic as visual aid.
As a professional actor, I have performed in front of small and large audiences. I have acted in scenes that require emotional commitment and fearlessness to the story, truthfully. As a teaching artist, I inspire young people to stand in front of their peers and confidently "speak for themselves." I have also coached privately, helping students get over their fear of speaking in public and improving their self-esteem in the process.
I help students improve their reading using comic books. Comics are ideal because they provide visual aids to help the reader understand the words.
As a professional actor, I have over ten years of performance experience. I have also taught theater arts (acting, playwriting, creativity and movement) to grades K-12 for nearly ten years. I earned my bachelor in theater from Temple University; I have trained with master teachers in notable programs throughout the U.S. and in London, UK.
