About Mira

I am a New York based professional visual artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California Roski School of Fine Arts. I work in New York and Los Angeles. I have also written over 20 published articles on contemporary art for the New York Beacon newspaper. Because, I am passionate about bringing art into the community to inspire others wherever I am I make time to teach and I love to teach!

I have worked as an art instructor and creator of visual arts curriculums for non-profit organizations for 15 years. I am knowledgeable in a wide variety of mediums but specialize in teaching painting, drawing, and collage. I have taught students of all ages including grades K-12, gifted students, at-risk teenagers, LGBT homeless youth and post-incarcerated adults.

In addition, I am an Art Coach. I have assisted prospective art students with the admissions process to art schools. This includes school selection, portfolio assessment, writing essays and securing financial aid/grants and scholarships. These students have been High School graduates as well as adults that were returning to school after many years of absence.

When tutoring or mentoring I like to create a comfortable and joyful atmosphere for my students based on positive reinforcement. I use a step by step approach to teaching to ensure that the student is successful in reaching his or her goals. I teach from a perspective of "Victory". I tell my students that "No matter how difficult the work might seem at the moment you will be definitely be victorious in the end!" All my students have taught me so much about life and made me a better teacher who is compassionate, patient, fun, flexible and extremely sensitive to diversity.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Painting

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the USC Roski School of Fine Arts and hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in painting and drawing. I have been exhibiting my paintings and drawings professionally for over 12 years.
