Hello! I am so glad you took a moment to review my profile. I am here with a very specific set of skills. I specialize in public speaking, speech/voice, accent reduction, and performance/presentation skills. I have a sincere passion for what I do and consider these areas of expertise of the utmost importance for any working professional: business or artist.
Let me give you a general sense of my credentials. I have been living, performing, and teaching in NYC for the last ten years. I earned my BFA in acting from NYU Tisch and was granted my MFA in theater from CUNY Brooklyn College, with an emphasis on speech and voice. I use three methods as the foundation for my instruction: Chuck Jones "Make Your Voice Heard," Edith Skinner "Speak with Distinction," and Keith Johnstone "Impro." I am a firm believer that through breath, through play, and through simple focus, any element of communication can be addressed.
My general approach for speech, dialects, and accent reduction is one of muscular re-habituation. That is a fancy way of saying, "Let's see what you're doing, why it's not working, and figure out what you need to do instead." I use phonetics as a foundation for this work. There are a finite number of sounds in the phonetic alphabet, each with a specific placement or structure. Once you catch on to the concept of phonetics, the rest is like learning the tango: it takes time, but your body will eventually give in to the new movement and then it just becomes a dance. Speaking should be as easy as breathing.
When I approach presentation and performance, I address it initially through learning how to determine an objective and attempt to instill the concept of placing your attention on the other person. No communication is about you. It's about getting the other person to hear you and listening to what is being said. That is a distinct and vital differentiation from what you may currently experience. I work with body language, breath, and simple tools for presenting like you mean it .. and like you love it!
Vocal production is for anyone who talks a lot: actors, teachers, personal trainers, baristas, you name it! We develop habits and tensions (that word sound familiar?) that impede our optimal use. I've been there. I addressed it. I teach it. I practice what I preach. You do not have to limit yourself and your freedom of communication. Know where you want to be and take the steps to get there! I can’t believe! Minna has changed me in a 4 weeks training! With Minna the world is new and dreams are true.
Simple can be harder than complex! You have to work hard to get thinking clean to make it simple. This is what Minna masters most! She has taken me to a new place to be able to move gigantic mountains. Minna has provided me a large variety of training options to suit my personal needs. The experience I had with Minna is really an unprecedented life's experience. Now, I can simplify a ten page article to be only 10 sentences without losing the core ideas! Thank you Minna.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been freelancing in the corporate sector for the past 5 years in the areas of accent reduction and presentation skills. Presenting is a unique skill and requires guidance and practice. I teach through the concept of action and objective: determining your audience, what you want them to get from them, and how best to get them to accept what you're offering. I find that lack of experience and fear of failure are the predominant issues people face. Through simply techniques I offer you the tools to get out of your head and into your heart. Believe in what you're saying and others will believe it along with you.
I have been teaching speech, accent reduction, and dialects for 6 years in both class settings and one-on-one. My teaching method is based on learning the fundamentals of phonetics and identifying subtle changes in sound formation to promote clarity, articulation, and efficiency in communication.
I will teach you audition preparation, monologues, scene study, and foundational analysis. I have a BFA and an MFA in acting. I have been acting for ten years and have a sincere passion for what I do. I was trained under the method of Practical Aesthetics, which was developed through The Atlantic Theater Co. I have been teaching acting to children and adults for the last five years and have seen great success in my students!
