About Dani

Hi, my name is Dani. I prepare students for all sections of the SAT, ACT, SSAT, and ISEE. I attended both Duke University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 2013.

In 2014, I worked full-time as a test prep tutor for a highly-regarded, boutique tutoring company in Southport, Connecticut. In the process, I accumulated over one thousand hours of invaluable tutoring experience; these are in addition to the 800+ hours that I have tutored via WyzAnt. Show me a SAT or ACT problem that you're having trouble with -- I bet I have seen it before! Of course, there is much more to tutoring than "knowing your stuff." I have also learned highly effective ways to convey the knowledge and skills necessary for success on these standardized tests.

The tutoring that I offer is highly personalized. I form a test-prep plan based on a student's individual strengths and weaknesses. I monitor progress through regular homework assignments and adjust lessons accordingly. I also give students practice tests on a semi-regular basis in order to objectively measure their progress and to further gauge where to focus instruction.

Tutoring is not only my job; it is a passion. I take great joy in helping my students. My work, as I see it, goes beyond preparing them for standardized tests. It involves helping students develop skills (such as attention to detail, sustained critical thinking, creative problem-solving, etc.) that will serve them not only on their tests, but also in their current high school classes, their future college classes, and their lives beyond academia.

I recommend that sessions last between 1 and 2 hours, as these time lengths allow for the most effective tutoring. I currently offer in-home tutoring in Manhattan, and I also tutor via Skype.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I was a math major in college, and almost all of my classes required a thorough understanding of algebra 1 and 2.

Although it can seem daunting at first, I like to show students how algebra is actually a very neat subject. For example, did you know that the Rubik's cube can be studied as an algebraic object? And that using algebra, mathematicians have found that any Rubik's cube can be solved in 20 moves or less? And that is just one of many, many examples of how algebra underlies much of what is around us in day-to-day life.

Algebra 2

I was a math major in college, and almost all of my classes required a thorough understanding of Algebra 1 and 2.

I also have tutored both Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 as a full-time tutor over the past year at a boutique educational firm in Southport, Connecticut.

ISEE

I have tutored students for the Lower Level, Middle Level, and Upper Level ISEE exams. I am extremely familiar with the test, from its layout to the types of questions it contains. When I tutor the ISEE, I use both official practice tests that have been released, as well as practice tests released by test prep companies such as Kaplan, etc.

SAT Math

I scored a 710 on the math section of the SAT. I also went on to be a math major in college, and enjoy teaching math and making it understandable.

SAT Reading

I scored a 780 on the Critical Reading section of the SAT, and have taught this section for several test prep companies.

SAT Writing

I scored a 790 on the writing section of the SAT. In college, I took enough writing-intensive philosophy classes to qualify for a philosophy minor at Duke University.

I really enjoy helping students improve their writing. Over the years friends have come to me to proofread and edit their papers, and I've seen their writing improve a lot in the process.

Excellent Tutor — Previously, Dani tutored our oldest son for the SAT. In 2 months, our son's score on the writing portion of the SAT increased 110 points. Currently, Dani is tutoring our daughter for the ACT. He is very patient, dependable and can effectively tutor a wide range of subjects areas. We highly recommend Dani for SAT or ACT prep. ...
