Hailing from Germany, I have the body of knowledge of a Renaissance man, applying Socrates-like tutoring methods.
What does that mean? It means the student will be guided in finding answers to problems and problem areas through digging into their own skills and what they already know, not exposing what they do not know. Technical knowledge is important - knowing facts, numbers, and equations - but applying them is even more important. The student will have fun learning, while making significant progress in mastering a given subject.
German is not an easy language to learn due to the complex grammar and tenses, but it is a very rich language, which more than 120 million people in Europe speak. Whether you are a first-timer, someone who wants to refresh their German for traveling and gain exposure to the culture and history of Germany, or whether you want to apply German for business, I will tailor a well-paced and challenging tutoring plan to your needs.
I am a bilingual (German/English) speaker with an excellent Abitur, a Diploma from a German Polytechnical Institute (Fachhochschule) as well as a Masters degree from a well-known graduate school in Virginia.
My experience in tutoring goes back to business school where I was a teaching assistant for two years tutoring college students in finance up to the 600 graduate level. In the last two years, as part of being involved in developing a children's TV show, I have had the pleasure to work with educators on matters including the STEM curriculum in the scripts for pre K to second grade. While visiting my family in Germany I also have had the pleasure to visit schools and teach about US culture and teach my 14-year old niece and 11-year old nephew in the English language.
I am looking forward to hearing from you. Hailing from Germany, I have the body of knowledge of a Renaissance man, applying Socrates-like tutoring methods.

Matthias is a patient and very flexible tutor. I started with him to refresh my German knowledge and it's been going great. Besides the sessions, he has helped me a lot to get involved with other German related stuff such as picking out the right German apps or books for better and faster results. He is always prepared for the next session and looks out for my needs. My German has improved a lot since I began working with him. Thank you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
