Harvard College (Neurobiology)
Students and parents,
I graduated from Harvard in May 2014 with a degree in Neurobiology. I work as an investment banker in NYC. I taught the SAT with Ivy Insiders (only for top scoring teachers) and Living Stone Academy (for students at TJHSST-- the high school with the highest average SAT score in the U.S.). I am currently the curriculum designer for the SAT for the company POINTS Prep. I scored in the 99+ percentile SAT and completed 14 AP courses in high school (with 11 "5"s). I achieved a 3.9 GPA at Harvard in my senior year. I have scored a perfect 2400 under the supervision of the private firms in which I have worked.
SAT tutoring is a personal investment in your child's future. Two hundred points on the test can be the difference between full tuition honors scholarships and the hanging out on the wait list. Your investment will pay off in more college options, scholarships, and academic awards. Your score can be that extra push your child's application needs to get into the most selective colleges.
I am affable, relatable and hardworking. In my last class, I raised the average SAT score by 215 points with my 19 students. Long-term individual tutoring usually results in 300-400 point increases combined, depending on your child's base level and our timeline. When I did not teach the SATs , I taught award-winning volunteer programs internationally and in Boston. I teach because teaching genuinely excites me.
The lesson planning has already taken hundreds of hours, so you'll be on the receiving end of my institutional knowledge with Ivy Insiders, Living Stone Academy, and POINTS. I know there are a lot of tutors online, but none have the deep level of specialized knowledge of the SAT as I do. Additionally, I'm a successful college graduate and can share my advise on college, banking or medicine.
Kaplan hired me about 4 years ago and told me that they would charge kids $2899 for 32 hours and convince parents that 50 points is a good improvement. I felt sick to my stomach. I immediately told them I no longer wished to start working as a tutor. I will write a contract for you that if a student starts at 1500, I will personally guarantee you that he or she will be at 1700 in 18 sessions or I will give your son or daughter free lessons until he or she reaches that score.
Always online (very effective for Math and Writing). I have a Microsoft Surface so I can tutor in a style similar to Khan Academy's. Online rate is VERY negotiable (~$30 / hour).
My prices are based on my availabilities and 100% negotiable. I love teaching. I actually look forward to meeting with my students and their families (all of us are now good friends). However, I also work as an investment banker, so I have to allocate my very limited time effectively.
Rates and sessions:
I require 2 hour sessions once or twice a week for 2 months or so depending on the student's level. I will develop a timeline for the student and we can agree to a meeting schedule. I will always tell you exactly what I think my expectations are and your best options. Most parents pay $150 for 2 hours, so effectively $75/hr. I offer discounts for students who have high GPAs / high number of AP courses at their current high schools (3.8+ or 4+ APs) or who have SAT scores lower than expected from their other academic achievements (for example, if your son has a 1500 out of 2400 SAT score with a 3.7 GPA, then tutoring will be extremely effective and I'm willing to take a pay cut to see him succeed).
I have worked with students at all ranges of the SAT spectrum. I think 1500-1800 motivated students will see the biggest improvements on a percentile basis, but I have worked with ~1900-2000 to get to 2200 (longer timeline, strong dedication).
Please feel free to message me.

SAT prep at the high end is $75 an hour given my prep background, success, and references. I offer special pricing for long-term tutoring. I'm flexible on price.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received an 800 on the Math SAT back in high school. Additionally, I tutored students during the summer through Ivy Insiders (19 total). We would normally charge $100/hour for tutoring, which I thought was absurd. I am free to negotiate prices. I am very motivated to helping your child succeed not just with a test, but also with college applications and life swagger.
