My name is Tanesia H. and I am here to help all of you out there who are struggling academically! I believe I have what it takes to help you conquer the many subjects, assignments and material you find challenging! I most recently graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University and received a Master of Education and a Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling. I believe teaching and helping others is my calling. I value education because I see it as a passport to liberation.
My history with educating others starts from when I was in high school. I worked for AmeriCorps After School Corporation in after school programs helping NYC elementary students do their homework and enhance their reading and math skills. During my undergraduate years in college when I would come home for breaks, I tutored students in elementary and junior high school throughout NYC and Yonkers again to help them build their math and literacy skills, as well as prepare them for yearly standardized tests.
In addition to working with elementary and junior high school students, I have also worked with college students teaching new student seminar courses that serve to help students get oriented and adjusted to the college environment, as well as, learn how to be successful throughout the college experience. In my seminars, I covered topics like time management, study skills, and taking advantage of the college's resources to name a few. I began working with college students while I was in graduate school at Columbia University. In addition to teaching, I have also served as an Academic Advisor and Personal/Career Counselor to college students at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, NY.
I am very familiar with the college application process as I received my associate's degree from Farmingdale State University, then transferred to Ithaca College for my Bachelor's. As mentioned above, I then went on to receive 2 master's from Columbia University. At each school my major was different, I have my Associate's in Liberal Arts, my Bachelor's in Psychology and Communication Disorders and my Master's in Psychological Counseling. So, I know how it feels to go through the tedious process of applying to different schools, transferring and figuring out what major to study, as well as, all the emotions that come along with the experience.
Since I have degrees in Liberal Arts, Psychology, Counseling, and Speech Pathology I am knowledgeable in an array of areas where you may need help. With that being said, I am eager to begin providing you with the assistance that you need so please do feel free to reach out to me so we can get started!!!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
