About Karen

I am an experienced tutor with a passion for helping students reach their full academic potential, increase their confidence, and enjoy successfully achieving their goals. I connect quickly with students and customize my approach to leverage their strengths and meet their specific needs.

As a student, I attended both public and private schools inside and outside the United States and graduated with highest honors as well as an International Baccalaureate diploma. I attended Trinity University in San Antonio, where I studied Liberal Arts and then went on to receive a BA honors degree in History and Politics from Royal Holloway, University of London. During this time, I began tutoring fellow students as well as younger children.

After university, I began an Alternative Certification for Teaching course in Houston, Texas, where I studied classroom management, educational psychology (learning and cognition), and daily lesson planning. Rather than pursuing a full-time teaching position, I decided to apply my skills in a one-on-one setting where I could really focus on how best to accomodate each individual. My enthusiasm for education and the subject matters I teach are contagious, and it brings me joy to share this passion with others.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Voice (Music)

I am a singer and song-writer with over 12 years of vocal training. My experience includes singing in national and international choirs, performing at live venues in London and Los Angeles, collaborating with a variety of musicians from different genres, and studio recording. I enjoy helping students enhance their singing through breathing and conditioning techniques; exploring approaches to tone, melody, rhythm; and developing their own personal syle and delivery.
