About Ella

I am really great with kids -- I have 3 of my own. I have been tutoring for 20 years. I have tutored English and Math in High School, as well as newly arrived Immigrants to the States getting ready to take their TOEFL exams. At NYU, I tutored in the writing workshop and edited papers on various topics. I also helped those students who needed help with their assignments in terms of Research and ideas. I am patient. I am fluent in Russian (native speaker), German (attended Junior High there), and English. I have a degree from NYU in Journalism and an MBA from Fordham. I am in NYC. I would love to assist you to a level where you want to be.

I have personally taken the TOEFL and the SAT test when applying to NYU -- I was accepted and graduated. I love languages in general and writing in particular. Writing is my hobby and am currently writing a book. I know that's not cool. LOL.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am an avid writer. I majored in Journalism at NYU. I help with College Essays in the Community and for those who need it. I also draft letters on a daily basis (mostly work related to HR/Employee issues). Since I have a son in College and a daughter in Junior High I tend to read their writing assignments as well. Writing is a habit. The more you do it, the better you get. Try reading your essay out loud is my first advice!

Russian

I am a Russian native speaker. I continued my education in the Russian Language and Literature at NYU. I have also volunteered at a local Community Center to teach Russian to children. The kids varied in age from 5 to 12 years old. I have also translated documents professionally from Russian to English and vice verse. I continue to read and write in the language as well as the translation of official documents.

Great Tutor and a Dream to Work With — I had the pleasure of taking a Russian class with Ella last Sunday. I found her to be very professional, patient, punctual, and exactly the type of tutor I have been looking for. Not only did Ella introduce me to the Russian alphabet in the first class, but she also explained a little of the Russian culture. I highly recommend Ella as a Russian tutor not only for the adult student but any age grou ...
