My art career began over fifty years ago when I won a high school city-wide art competition for a scholarship to the Rochester Institute of Technology. As a graduate student in 1967 at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago I was a student teacher. I received a BFA degree in sculpture and a MFA degree in painting. I then taught art in Junior colleges for several years before moving to Wisconsin where I designed and physically built four private houses. This gave me experience in architectural drawing and the understanding of the relationship between a two dimensional surface and a three dimensional construction.
I taught drawing and painting classes in Wisconsin during this time, as well as creating four public murals and, as throughout my career, always painting and having shows of the work.
In 1980 I moved to Hollywood where I created over two-hundred paintings of the movie industry at work. I was the first person to have a show of paintings at the Motion Picture Academy. The Smithsonian Institution included my work in its “Hollywood; Legend and Reality” exhibition. The State Department sent my paintings to Europe in the National Gallery, Athens, Greece as well as several other venues. The show was held over because of the enthusiastic response.
Experience is the most important quality I bring to tutoring. It is easy for me to see where a student needs work and where their strengths are to be able to communicate in a succinct and clear way. Learning the visual vocabulary is as important as learning the vocabulary of words. Students learning the fundamentals will be able to build a solid foundation to work from. Once the fundamentals are understood the student will be guided toward their own unique way of expression.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a practicing artist for over 50 years. I have taught at every level of experience. This includes grants I recently received from the New York State Council of the Arts to teach a drawing class open to all age groups. My art teaching began as a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I was a student teacher. I taught Junior College art in the Chicago area. Last year I was awarded a matching grant from Arts/Westchester to teach in Pine Bush High School (NY).
In 1967, I graduated with an MFA degree in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have been a practicing artist specializing in painting since then. I have taught at every level of experience, starting in Junior Colleges in the Chicago area. I taught classes in Wisconsin, in Santa Barbara and most recently in the Pine Bush, NY area, where I was awarded teaching grants from Arts in Orange and from Arts/Westchester to teach a special course in Pine Bush High School.
