What I have found over the years of working with people, kids included, is that listening and hearing what is spoken and unspoken is the key to assisting them in reaching their desired goals. In my many years of movement training, theatre experience and teaching, encouragement and enthusiasm are the bridges to learning and embodying the information. I have 22 years experience of working with people one-on-one. I am what I teach: integrity, honesty and clarity. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with you or your children.
I have a BA in Theatre and Dance, and graduate work in movement therapy. I am also a published poet and painter. My approach to teaching is more like facilitating an open
space for learning to take place. I enjoy reading and my approach to academics is the subject at hand and also the full body experience of the information: embodiment. I could help your child find the fun in learning as well as the boundaries and discipline to bringing their attention to the subject, fully. I was a student who always needed to move when I studied, some kind of motor activity to help me imprint the information, make it come alive. I love learning, myself and pass that delight on to other students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught embodied anatomy and art and movement which deeply gets the in-form-ation in YOU. It is not only a way to learn anatomy but to increase and enhance awareness.
I can help with choreography, improvisation or movement techniques. My background is in modern dance, improvisation, Pilates and yoga. I have taught at dance schools for kids and private fitness and movement classes for adults. I am a solo choreographer and have performed in venues in the downtown modern and post-modern dance scene. I have performed at MoMA, in films and on stage.
I am a certified Pilates trainer since 1996 in NYC. I have taught in many studios and continue to teach. I have gone to people's homes and worked with elderly people helping them with balance and movement. I include hands on adjustments to further educate the nervous system and to correct the students mis-use of themselves. I have been a dancer/mover since I studied ballet at age 5 and continue to research movement and right use in movement.
I have been an actor and performer for 35 years. I graduated from 3 year training as an Alexander Technique teacher June 24, 2016. I work with people's tendency to rush their speech and bring their awareness to their body, to take their time, allow the breath to come in naturally and work on the voice being supported by the breath. I studied acting in London and New York, as well as having my BA in Theatre.
I have a BA in Theatre and a post graduate degree from The Drama Studio in London, Uk. I am an actor, sag/aftra. I have taught and directed kids.
I am certified by a 500 hour course from Body-Mind Centering back in 2007. I have been teaching yoga since 2000 in NYC. My yoga teacher was taught by BKS Iyengar. I have been studying with her since 1996. I use yoga as a means of embodying the student and educating them about their bodies, breath and being.
