I have been tutoring Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, English, Writing, Philosophy, SAT, ACT, Grade school math and English as well as MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for over three years; there is nothing I enjoy more than watching my students succeed.
I create a relaxed environment for my students in order to make the work stress free and enjoyable. My goal is to make the coursework fun for the student by finding an approach to learning that works best based on their unique characteristics. Being able to empathize with students in order to understand where their challenges lie and patient in helping them overcome those hurdles is where I excel. By exploring different approaches to difficult concepts I break them into manageable pieces that fit with each students prior experience which make learning approachable rather than overwhelming. Behind every concept we have yet to master there is a myth in our mind about what it entails. Demystifying through creativity and humor allows my students to overcome a combination of fear, frustration and/or complacency that we all experience at some point while learning.
I have tutored dozens of students in the SAT and ACT and have helped them all increase their scores with most increasing their SAT score at least 100 points and some by over 400 points and on the ACT most by over 4 points and some by over 8 points. These are very difficult tests designed to be difficult to improve on. All of my students who gave themselves plenty of time to prepare and followed through on their promise to work on their own have seen significant score improvements. I have helped graduate students write Psychology and various other papers, college students write papers in all subjects, high school students with essays and college essays and all age groups with creative writing. I have helped dozens of college statistics students pass statistics and high school students with Algebra, Geometry, English, History and Science. I have also worked with numerous students on developing study skills; helping them find the fun in school as well as helping with their organization skills and approach to homework.
Previous to working as a tutor I worked for five years as a Reporting Analyst for an online marketing firm. I worked extensively in Excel, PowerPoint and Access and trained staff in their use. I am an expert in MS Office, in particular Excel. I am well versed in everything in Excel but in particular using formulas, pivot tables and macros to automate complex tasks related to correcting, organizing, analyzing and presenting large amounts of data. I am also an expert at creating PowerPoint presentations and managing databases in Access.
I graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Pitzer College in 2006 and, as I previously mentioned worked for five years working as a reporting analyst focusing mostly on Excel. I started tutoring in 2012 as a way to gain more free time to pursue my passion in writing and found that I have a passion for teaching. I started with Excel but quickly decided to re-learn other subjects having previously been a strong student and test taker. I currently work as a freelance screenwriter and tutor. I am passionate about both and feel lucky to be able to be an influence on my students lives.

It's difficult to even express how grateful I am for the time I spent with Christopher- the irony being that, with his help, my words could undoubtedly be more confident and precise. Over 6 weeks, Christopher managed to teach me a subject that was previously- despite alternate intervention and endless review- impenetrable. Patient, kind, and brilliant, I can think of no one more qualified for teaching another human being. Truly blessed to have come across this profile, as are you.Hilary, 12 lessons with Christopher
Knowledge and enthusiastic tutor
Chris tutored my son in a very short amount of time. He gave him an orientation to the test and notes and prescribed pointers for each section. My son had to cram based on a late decision to take the test and Chris’ help made a world of difference. My son actually looked forward to each tutoring session.Melissa, 4 lessons with Christopher
on time, encouraging and smart
That is what you want in a tutor. Chris takes the time, expects results, increases the child's confidence and pushes them to expect more. We will use him again in a year when our next child is prepping for SAT/ACT.James, 13 lessons with Christopher
knowledgeable, patient, reliable tutor
Hello, I have a very aloof and unmotivated 16 year old struggling in geometry. Based on Christopher's profile, I knew my son would respond to him easier. By the end of my son's session, Christopher was able figure out my son's strengths and where his problems lies. This is important, because, we now can go back to were Stefen started experiencing difficulties and work forward. I'm optimistic, he will redeem himself and get those math grades his up, so getting into the university of choice, will be a tad bit easier.Grace, 2 lessons with Christopher
Relaxed but perceptive and capable
Having read Christopher's bio, I sensed that there was something special about him, and that he was the right one for our son who has some learning challenges, particularly in the area of Math. I believe it is very important a tutor connects not only on an academic level but also where there can be some light hearted conversation. Christopher arrived punctually for our first meeting and his assessment of our son. In advance of that meeting I had explained to Christopher what the challenges are and what our collective objectives are. As soon as I saw him, he appeared to relaxed but confident. After an initial introduction, I stepped away to let Christopher and our son become acquainted and he immediately set about establishing some common ground which happened to be a particular sport. No more than Christopher, our son is also very perceptive and despite the fact that he initially resisted the idea of any tutor, his words after this first meeting were "I can work with him"! Its obviously early days yet, but so far so good!Catherine, 14 lessons with Christopher
Helpful Geometry Tutor
Just had our first session with Christopher and my daughter is eagerly looking forward to the next one. He added clarity and helped her connect the dots on some concepts that she was unable to get from her high school teacher.Kevin, 9 lessons with Christopher

I used a few tutors in the past and Chris is the best. We did a one hour lesson online and it was exactly what I needed. Here's why you will love Chris: He knew the material down cold. He didn't have to waste time reviewing what I was doing, he knew the subject (college level statistics) inside and out. I was worried because I had a test coming up and I didn't understand the concepts at all, but Chris showed me how to do the problems logically and thoroughly. I ended up getting 100% on my test when the class average was in the 70s. Chris was so accommodating to my last minute test-desperation! He was on time, responsive, and he clearly laid out exactly what I needed to do. He was also excellent about giving me a chance to put it together myself so I was actively learning the material with his guidance. I will only use Chris now. 1 hour cleared up weeks worth of concepts that I had the general idea about, but I was still kind of murky on the details. I am very confident with the material after our lesson. If you or your child want to get an A in your course, Chris is the most intuitive and clear instructor I have ever had. I'm a senior in college at a 4 year private school and Chris actually came through and did an online lesson with me after my original tutor didn't work out. I can't say enough how Chris saved my grade before I was really lost. I will absolutely prepare for future exams with Chris. I pay too much money for this college to drop the ball by trying to take exams without reviewing with a tutor first. The money I spent with Chris is why I have an A and I'm so grateful that he was able to fit me in right before my exam. I highly recommend him.Thea, 1 lesson with Christopher
With a few painless lessons, Chris was able to raise my son's ACT scores significantly. Most impressively, he taught him a few easy strategies for the reading section, which had been his weakest area, which resulted in a 34 on that section. We were very pleased - it was time and money well spent.Bridget, 12 lessons with Christopher
Knowledgable and EXTREMELY patient
Christopher came here to teach me pivot tables which I needed to know for work. I had no knowledge of what they were or did and when he left I had an understanding which I did not think I could achieve in such a short time. The patience he showed was wonderful as I was nervous and he put me at ease which is not an easy task! He also had to figure out what I need to do (in Excel)when I do not completely understand it myself but by the time he left, he understood and I am confident that I can succeed now and it is all because of Christopher!Joanne, 5 lessons with Christopher
