If you are a graduate, undergraduate, or high school student in New York City seeking tutoring in mathematics or physics, look no further because I'm your guy! I graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University back in 2012, double majoring in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering. I ventured out to the University of Michigan for a few years, earning my MS in 2014 and PhD in 2018, both in Electrical Engineering with a focus in signal/image processing and machine learning. Now I work as a Research Scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, where I'm using machine learning, modern mathematical methods, and "big data" to make MRI's faster, safer, and more informative than ever before. In my spare time, I enjoy tutoring students of all backgrounds to keep my teaching skills sharp.

I have over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I began tutoring back in high school, volunteering over the summer holidays at a local science center. During my undergraduate studies, I worked for three years as a Physics Tutor at the Cornell Learning Strategies Center, tutoring students from across the university in most undergraduate physics and several math courses. In my senior year, I was promoted to Chief Tutor, taking on additional managerial responsibilities. During graduate school, I taught semester-long courses in signal processing and probability/statistics; this involved lectures, lab instruction, and tutoring during office hours. I began tutoring independently in 2012, and have since had the pleasure of working with over 50 different students, ranging from a teenager seeking to improve her SAT I math score, to a mid-career professional seeking to transition into machine learning (see both of their testimonials below!).

I took the new GRE (scaled from 130-170) in September 2011. I received 169/170 in math, 160/170 in verbal, and 5.5/6.0 in writing. I was accepted into several PhD. programs with these scores, and will be matriculating to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for a PhD. in electrical engineering in the fall of 2012.

Knowledgeable with excellent teaching skills

Gopal is excellent at teaching the concepts for discrete math and electrical engineering concepts. Drag myself to class but look forward to Gopal's clearly taught tutoring lessons. Should have signed up with him months ago! He goes beyond "helping" and teaches.

Smart, intelligent, and patient

Gopal has helped me so much!! I came to him part way through the semester feeling super lost and behind, and he met with me as much as I needed to bring me up to speed, (as well as my grade). He is really patient and thorough. He explains every topic from beginning to end and makes sure I actually understand the material.

Excellent tutor all-around

Gopal is consistently attentive and knowledgeable. He clearly cares both about teaching and about mathematics and science. I was blown away by the level of detail in his work. He takes careful notes and prepares for every session. And he designs homework assignments just for us! I'm a relatively advanced student (preparing for a career in data analysis). Yet it didn't take long for us to find the right pace, given how patient and attentive Gopal is as a teacher. All in all, it's great to work with someone who is both a passionate teacher and a researcher in the field.

I cannot speak highly enough about Gopal. He is completely knowledgeable on the subject of SAT Math for which he tutored my H.S. senior. He communicated this knowledge in an effortless, patient and comprehendable manner, connecting well with my daughter until she understood the lesson. Gopal, to a lesser extent, also reviewed the other parts of the SAT, to coach my daughter about procedural efficiencies to help tweak her scores. Excellent Tutor!

We recruited Gopal to help my son prepare for the SAT II Physics test. Gopal took a great deal of time preparing for each tutoring session. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and personable in his tutoring. He wrote a detailed review after each session, which provided very good feedback for us. He ensured that my son understood fully all the concepts instead of just reviewing questions. He was patient and was genuinely interested in teaching my son.
