About Daniel

Hi there!

I have many years of full time experience tutoring Math, Physics, Chemistry, SAT I, SAT II and ACT, offering a steady and patient approach to helping my students achieve their academic and professional potential.

I work with students on Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Physics and Chemistry, explaining challenging concepts with clarity and precision. I have worked with many dozens of student at the High School, AP, IB and College Levels, using learning and study techniques that I have seen improve students’ grades and scores over and over again.

Having studied physics at Cornell University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA, and working in various engineering fields before becoming a tutor I have a deep understanding of math and science, and know high school and college curricula well.

For the SAT and ACT exams, I develop strategies tailored to individual students’ styles of learning for the Math, Reading and Writing sections. Together we become familiar with each type of question offered on these exams and develop reliable methods for tackling each.

A little more info about me: I am also an active visual artist, and have exhibited my work in galleries around the world. I split my time between tutoring and my artwork!

Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Daniel

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is one of the first courses in which students begin to encounter more abstract topics in math such as variables, equations, quadratics and factoring. I have over five years of full-time experience working with students in New York on this subject, and have helped all of them to develop an understanding of the material according to their own style of learning. Ultimately, my students achieve a confidence and clarity in the subject with which they earn significantly higher grades in class.

Algebra 2

I have many years experience working with students on Algebra 1 and 2. This is the beginning of advanced mathematics and it is very common for students require some support to get used to manipulating variables and equations, as well as more advanced algebra topics such as factoring, quadratic equations and simultaneous equations.

Together we work through schoolwork, tests, and additional examples in order to thoroughly explain challenging concepts according to your personal style of learning. Ultimately we build your confidence, and ensure that you are ready to achieve a significantly high grade in class.

Calculus

Many students find Calculus to be one of the hardest classes they will encounter at school or college. I have more than 5 years of full-time experience helping students in New York to work through this subject and understand it from the ground up. With a degree in Physics I have a deep understanding of the subject, and I patiently work through examples and practice exams with my students in order to help them develop strategies for tackling Calculus according to their own style of learning. Ultimately my students perform with increased confidence and clarity in class, achieving significantly improved grades.

Chemistry

I graduated Summa Cum Laude in Physics at Cornell University and my degree involved study and research of chemistry to a high academic level. Since I graduated I have had many years experience working with chemistry students at the high school and college level. Chemistry students often struggle either with quantitative calculations or the large amount of rules that govern chemical compounds and reactions. I go through these aspects of the subject step-by-step with my students, ensuring that they understand exactly what is going on in a way that fits into their style of learning. Ultimately, my students perform more confidently and score significantly higher on their exams.

Physics

Over many years, I have worked with countless students to tackle their physics class, which is often the most challenging subject that they will encounter. Having a degree in Physics as well as professional experience in engineering I understand physics deeply and thoroughly.

Most importantly, however, I have extensive experience helping many different types of students gain confidence with this subject. Together we go through your schoolwork, additional examples and practice exams in order to identify which areas you excel at and in which you need more practice. Ultimately, we make sure that you are ready to achieve a significantly higher grade on your tests and exams.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is usually the first course in which students encounter variables, equations and often trigonometry. With a degree in Physics from Cornell University and more than 5 years full-time experience working as a tutor, I both understand this subject very deeply and, more importantly, understand how to help my students understand their schoolwork and do well in class.

Precalculus

Precalculus contains a number of topics that students often find difficult, including advanced algebra and trigonometry. With a degree in Physics from Cornell University, I have a deep and intuitive understanding of this subject. Most importantly, however, I have worked with many dozens of students in precalculus over more than 5 years, and have experience with the many different approaches and learning styles that students in New York have towards precalc. I help my students understand the subject from the ground up, perform confidently in class, and ultimately score significantly higher on their exams.

Regents

I have a degree in Physics from Cornell University, and have many years of experience helping students prepare for the Regents examinations in math (all levels), chemistry and physics. Together we thoroughly review the material covered by the exam so as to identify which areas you excel in and which need more practice. Then we will work through practice examinations until you are as confident as possible before taking the exam. Ultimately, I help all of my students score as highly as they possibly can on their Regents.

SAT Math

I have many years experience helping students in New York prepare for the SATs. Together we build an approach to this exam tailored to your style of learning and test-taking. We build specific strategies for each type of Math question, create and study a customized list of relevant vocabulary, hone focussed reading skills and develop effective and persuasive methods of writing. Using these techniques all of my students take the test with energy and confidence, achieving significantly higher scores on all sections.

Trigonometry

Many students find the complicated rules of sines, cosines and triangles in trigonometry to be one of the first subjects that they struggle with in math. With a degree in Physics from Cornell University, I understand the ins and out of trigonometry very deeply. Most importantly, however, I have more than 5 years experience working as a tutor with many dozens of students. I have a deep understanding of how to help students get to grips with this material, perform confidently in class and ultimately achieve significantly increased scores on their exams.

Fantastic tutor! — Daniel has been working with my 11 ys son for two months already on tackling advanced math (such as AMC competition). He works with him for an 1.5 hour at a time . Somehow Daniel is able to keep him engaged and concentrated for the whole 1.5h (not an easy task for boys this age) . He is extremely knowledgeable, personable and makes my son excited about math. Daniel is also extremely reliable and ...
