About Christa

Hello and welcome!

My name is Christa and I'm a writer, editor, administrator, and ELA/ESOL educator in New York City.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, I earned my B.A. in Creative Writing and Business Administration from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which I attended on the Diversity Leadership Scholarship -- a full-tuition scholarship based on an essay and interview. I co-taught middle-school ELA in the Bronx and currently work as Operations Associate at an elementary school in Manhattan's Lower East Side while continuing entrepreneurial editorial and educational work through Behind the Page. I'm looking to pursue a career in publishing and to further my own education in Comparative Literature and Sociocultural/Linguistic Anthropology. In my spare time, I frequent literary events -- from The Poetry Project's Annual New Year's Day Marathon Benefit Reading to The Brooklyn Book Festival to panels and readings hosted by PEN America. I have a passion for language that permeates all else in my life.

My first job was working at my high school library -- Simms Library at Albuquerque Academy. I then worked in retail and at a temp office agency doing everything from reception work to call centers and library work. During my final undergraduate semester, I interned with both a publishing house and literary agency. I have served as Intern and Poetry Editor of a Christian horror publication titled "The Midnight Diner," and have been on staff at both my college and high school literary magazines -- as Co-Fiction Editor and Manuscript Reader of "The Coe Review" and as Co-Text Editor and Manuscript Reader of Albuquerque Academy's "Other Voices," respectively. I participated in the College Scholars Honors Program; made Dean's List and Alpha Lambda Delta Honors at Coe College; and graduated Cum Laude from Albuquerque Academy, where founded my high school poetry slam club and received letters of recognition in the departments of Spanish, English, Mathematics, Science, and History.

My schedule is currently in flux, but I'm generally available most weeknights.

I look forward to hearing from you and thanks for stopping by!

~ Christa A.
