I have 12 years of experience in publishing and am an expert in the use of Adobe Creative Suite 6 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). I am also a fine artist, trained in the use of traditional media to create realistic and abstract paintings and drawings. Essentially, if you need to learn how to create an image of any kind, for print or for the web, I have the expertise to teach you how on all levels of experience, from beginner to advanced students.
My method of tutoring is to find out the goal of the student and base what I teach on this as well as how much time the student has to reach that goal. For instance, if the ability to produce a book is needed, I will tailor the instruction to completing one using the Creative Suite for book production. If the student wants to learn photo retouching, I will focus on those specific techniques used in retouching. If a more general instruction in the use of Photoshop is asked for, I can educate the student in all aspects of the software. I've worked as a freelancer for a long time. I've always had the confidence to walk into any office and know I can produce great results no matter what project is given to me. I can instill this kind of confidence in anyone I teach. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've used Adobe InDesign professionally in the Publishing industry since 2002, when it replaced Quark Express as the premier page layout program. I've used InDesign to produce and design all kinds of materials such as packaging, editorial pages, and complete books for major corporations such as Disney/Hyperion books, Fujifilm USA, Met Life. My work has always garnered praise and was always completed by deadline. I have the latest version of InDesign as part of the Adobe Creative suite, CS6.
Photoshop is the ultimate tool for dealing with digitized images. I am very familiar with every aspect of this software through use and experience in publishing environments. This includes working with layers, channels, filters, effects and automation. I am up to date in my knowledge, which is essential, since the capabilities of the software change and increase with every upgrade.
I am an expert draftsman, meaning I can draw anything, real or imagined with great creativity and precision. I have been trained formally in drawing at the Paier School of Art in Hamden, CT and was on the Dean's list. I have many hours of practice drawing from still life set-ups and the human figure from live models. I can teach all aspects of drawing including: one, two and three point perspective; modeling (shading); using pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pastel, brush, and computer tablet.
I am trained in the art of drawing and painting using the traditional techniques used by the old masters. This includes drawing in correct perspective, color and composition theory, drawing from the figure, and traditional rendering techniques using oils, watercolor, gouache and newer media such as acrylics. I can instruct in the creation of portraits, still life, landscape as well as abstract and conceptual art.
