In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I also strongly believe in the use of technology as an important learning tool. Today's students increasing rely on technology and find it a fun and entertaining way to learn literacy skills.

I started my career in teaching over 30 years ago. After several years I entered the business world where I enjoyed a successful career developing educational programs in the financial and medical arenas. I returned to teaching in 2003 but also needed to return to school to become a certified classroom teacher. I did this and continued my studies in Gifted Education while I continued to work full time and raise my children. I could not have done this without organization and use of developed study skills. I assess the students needs and consider their challenges to provide the best strategies in study skills tailored specifically to them.
