I have been teaching in NYC Public Schools for eight years. Although I mainly teach English, I also hold certification in Special Education. Currently I teach at a high school located in midtown east; I love it, but teaching five classes of 34 students a day doesn’t really allow me to give students the individual help they need.
Individual and small group tutoring allows me to focus on the areas that a student is struggling with and help them to understand the subject matter. It also allows me to evaluate each student’s learning style and approach the materials at hand in a way that caters to that child’s needs.
I have tutored and or taught the following subjects: reading recovery; elementary math; ESL; US history (including regents prep); world history (including regents prep); English 1-8 (including regents prep); self-contained HS English; journalism; drama; creative writing and art history. I have also prepared and tutored students for the SAT and the specialized high school exam.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
