My daughter had a great time brushing up on her drawing skills. Jane was very encouraging and helped E focus her attention. I will be starting lessons with her too!
We are totally enjoying our time with Jane as a tutor. She very gamely took on the challenge of teaching us all as a family with differing interests and abilities. We wanted to process our time here in New York, so requested rather last minute to focus on our experience here in Manhattan. And it's been lots of fun! She gives a wee mini lesson to warm us up and then we all get to work on different pieces and she gives lots of encouragement as well as gentle (but needed) guidance to making little improvements that make a big difference. One of us is doing portrait, one is doing a cityscape with perspective, another flowers and the last is a study on a New York building...so she is having to inform us on a variety of topics and is doing so adeptly. She's also been a wealth of information regarding things to see and do here in the city. :)
Talented, approachable, knowledgeable and kind. Everything I could want to guide my daughter in her journey as an artist. So grateful to Jane.
My 6 year old produced her first painting on second session with Jane, it was beautiful. I am very proud of her and happy we got her in the right hands. Jane is great
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have both a BFA and an MFA in Visual Arts where I majored in Printmaking and minored in Drawing. I taught my own Design and Drawing classes for two years while attaining my Masters degree at SUNY Buffalo. I taught Drawing at Ramapo College as an adjunct Professor for multiple years including summer school. I have been teaching Drawing privately in my art studio for over nine years to adults, teens and children. My teaching is focused on learning through direct observation where I cover all aspects of drawing; from quality of line, tonality, shading and perspective using a variety of drawing materials. My students study from the figure, still life, and landscape.
