About Mansfield

Let's talk about you, and then talk about me.

First, you: You already know that you must rock your law school exams. (That includes the bar exam, but we'll get there in a minute.)

More than ever, your early success as a lawyer--getting a good law firm job, clerkship, public interest position, or teaching position--will depend on your law school grades, and your first year grades in particular.

If you think you can ace law school by doing what you did in college, you will have a disappointing first semester.

Let me help you learn the right way to study for law school.

People who get good grades are not necessarily smarter (it helps, but plenty of smarty people get bad grades). The key is studying the _right way_ for law school exams. If you work hard the wrong way, you will get only mediocre grades.

So, let's talk about me: why work with me? Because I have several ways to prove to you that I know that right way to study for law school:

(1) I aced exams as a law student using the very methods I will teach you: I graduated from NYU Law School magna cum laude, Order of the Coif (top 10%), and a senior board member of Law Review.

(2) I was a teaching assistant for two classes, and I wrote and graded practices exams, so I know from a professor's perspective what law students do right and wrong.

(3) I have successfully tutored other law students at NYU Law, Fordham, and other New York area law schools (as well as law schools outside New York).

So if you want to learn the right approach, the 80/20 way, to study for law school, please email me.

Start now--you need to start to prepare before you get to law school (or before the semester starts if you have already done a year of law school and were not happy with your grades). Not all summer, mind you, but maybe a month before. You'll need a little time to learn this new method of studying.

Finally, you'll want to know price. I generally charge $140 per hour. This is comparable to (and somewhat less than) other high-quality tutoring services.

PS. I offer other services: I tutor for the New York bar exam, especially international/foreign LLMs and attorneys

I review and edit resumes for law jobs and clerkships.

I can coach for the law review writing competition (as an editor for Law Review, I wrote and graded the competition), at least before it starts (I can't help you during the competition).

I can also help with general legal career advice, and selection of judges and law firms to apply to.

But let's start by rocking your exams first.

PPS. Hate to be a hater, but some people should not write me:

First, if price is your first and only concern, I am not your tutor. My services are less expensive than comparable high-quality tutoring services, but not cheap.

Please believe me when I say that no one who actually knows how to ace law school will give their advice cheaply (like for $30 or $40 an hour). Whether you work with me or someone else, please don't just pick your tutor based on price. Make them prove to you that they can improve your grades, and then pay for that value you are getting.

Second, if you want a money-back guarantee of all As, don't write me. I can't guarantee results; no one can. Anyone who does is lying.

Law school is sometimes, often cruelly, random. As prepared as I was in law school, I still got the occasional B in cases I studied hard for (on the flip side: I aced some classes I thought I was going to fail).

But what I can do is put you on the right path, the solid path, that helped me and others before and after me succeed (i.e., helped us graduate with honors at very competitive law schools).

You still have to do the hard work, but I will help you do it the right way.
Let's talk about you, and then talk about me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bar Exam

I have coached students in answering essay-exam answers on the New York bar exam as well as strategies for dealing with the MBE. I passed the New York bar exam on my first attempt in July 2003.

Law

Help with law school "issuer spotter" exams--specifically how best to study for them before and during the semester; how to outline; and how to write thorough "lawyerly" answers on exams.
