Yale University (Psychology)
I'm a Bilingual Math and Spanish teacher and tutor with a B.A. from Yale University. I currently teach at The Beekman School, a private high school in Manhattan, and I tutor students of various ages and schools such as The Allen-Stevenson School, Spence, Chapin, Brearley, Horace Mann, Wagner, Loyola, and Columbia University. Subjects include Algebra I - II, Geometry, and Spanish I - IV, and Standardized Test Prep for the SAT, SHSAT, TACHS, ACT and Regents.
I have over 6 years of experience teaching and tutoring Math and Spanish, native fluency in Spanish, and I've studied Spanish grammar, usage, and literature at the college level (a copy of my Yale transcript is available upon request). I find tutoring to be especially rewarding because of the personal attention I can give each student, and also because I can cater the lessons -- the pace, structure, materials, etc. -- to each student's unique needs.
I have excellent references, available upon request. I have a sliding rate which depends on the location, duration, and frequency of the sessions, as well as the needs of the student. I do my best to accommodate all students. I'm a Bilingual Math and Spanish teacher and tutor with a B.A. from Yale University. My rate is sliding; it depends on the location/frequency/duration of the sessions, & what the student can afford. I try to accommodate everyone, so I encourage you to contact me regardless of rate.
Isadora was able to effectively communicate with and motivate my step son to learn. When Isadora arrives for a session, my step son immediately gets serious and starts working. She knows how to motivate him and is expert in explaining concepts in a way he can understand.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive experience tutoring K - 6th graders, as well as references. While I was at Yale, I volunteered as a tutor at a local public elementary school, and felt extremely rewarded from it. I understand how crucial it is for children to get the attention and instruction they need in these years if they are to have a successful academic experience later in life.
I took a 3 day course for MS Project as part of my training to be a Technical Project Manager at AOL and relied on it heavily when I had that job. I think it's an extremely useful tool that is often underutilized.
I have over 4 years of working with special needs students, as a teacher and as a tutor, at The Beekman School and also as a private tutor. My students have had a variety of special needs, including dyslexia, ADD, and autism. I'd be happy to provide references from parents of students I've worked with that have had special needs.
I have extensive experience helping students improve their study skills and organization. In high school I learned the skills necessary to graduate with a 4.0 grade point average and then continued on to Yale University, where I graduated with a G.P.A. of 3.6, all while maintaining a busy work schedule and being an active member of the music and dance community. I'm currently on staff as a tutor at The Beekman School, where I help my students learn and apply study skills that match their particular learning style.
