About Yekaterina

Currently I am enrolled in a program called Teacher Academy. For the past four years I have spent my time within the classroom learning various ways of introducing one specific subject. My experiences within the classroom allow for me to find an effective and most efficient way to tutor each child for their specific needs. I have tutored one on one for many years and plan to continue on learning new ways to diversity my instruction to adapt to different students' needs.

My goal can be summed up into two words, "Teach, Learn." I believe that tutoring is not only a one way learning process. To be a good instructor you must be able to learn from your students as well.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

In Algebra 1 students learn to do many things.

1st: The students learn how to apply different operations to real numbers. They learn how to simplify algebraic formulas, and how to convert between different measurement
unit.

2nd: The students learn how to solve linear equations, find the value of a variable that is given and understand how to rearrange formulas. Linear inequalities are also solved
by using order properties which are learned with real numbers, and they solve word problems.

3rd: The students learn to draw physical and mental interpretations of the graphs. The concept of functions, domains and ranges are also covered as well.

4th: The students start to draw linear lines where they can find the slope and intercepts. They also learn how to draw the function when given the slope and y-intercept.

5th: The students learn how to solve linear equations with two variables using both graphs and algebraic methods. This includes using word problems and graphs to solve pairs of linear inequalities in two variables.

6th: The students also deal with polynomials and their powers and how we must sometimes add, multiply, subtract or divide the powers depending on the expression. They also learn to understand the relationships between equation and their solutions, the zeros of a function, and the x-intercepts of a graph.

7th: The students also learn how to make algebraic fractions which means making proportions.

8th:The students also apply the knowledge they learned when dealing with linear functions and apply that in graphing quadratic, cubic, and rational functions. The students also need to solve equations that may contain radical expressions.

9th: The students are also asked to use their problem solving and reasoning skills. They must learn how to approach a problem, they explain their reasoning, and they need to check their results.

Public Speaking

When needed to speak in public I found myself lost within my own body trying to push the words out of my mouth. After many years of help and motivation I was able to stand up in front of a classroom and speak. I never found it possible to transition from being the student that never spoke to the individual that wants to become a teacher. I have learned many techniques and skills that can motivate public speaking to be an enjoyable task. I personally know the anxiety of public speaking and i have overcome it. To become a better speaker you must first become confident within yourself. The people listening to you are there for a reason, to hear you.

Salsa Dancing

Salsa dancing is my specialty in field. I was currently part of a dance company called Latin FX. We danced merengue, bachata, salsa, belly dancing and hip-hop. I have taught many personal and group classes up to 30 students. I have preformed in colleges, fund raisers, socials and private events. For practice i went to socials every night to represent what i felt most passionate about. I have a great network of salsa dancers, which allows for me to always stay on my feet ready to dance anywhere.

I am a Salsa on 2 (New York style) instructor and choreographer. I can teach ladies and mens styling and partner work. I teach all the way up to intermediate level. I also have a music section of the class, where you may hear the beat within the music to match your steps. As an instructor i will give you and exercise after our lesson so you can practice at home till our next session. If you practice at home you are more likely to learn faster and be self determined to learn. Salsa is a very energetic and fun dance if learnt right.

Sewing

When I was younger I went to Fashion Industries High School, which is were I spend most of my time learning how to sew. I started by learning to baste, which in other words means sewing with my hands. I learned different ways to baste so that the fabric stayed firmly together. I learnt how to sew effectively and fix the machine with no effort. I learned in my last year how to create patterns. To create the patter one must understand how the body is formed and what we are proportioning the paper to. Then we trace the paper to fabric and sew together. But if one thing is sew on too soon the whole project can be corrupted. So to sew fabrics together you must once again understand how they should be put together.

I can teach the difference in fabrics, the color wheel, different colors and what they represent. I also learned how to design, which allows me to bring my ideas to paper with paints, oils, watercolor, or markers. Allowing your ideas come to life is a great thing. Even knowing how to shorten a pair of pants or sew on a button can save you lots of money over time. Doing it yourself is always the answer.
