Hi and thanks for considering me as your GRE/GMAT tutor.

For each of these tests, I have been in your shoes and so I know what it means to struggle with the material and to be lost as to how to approach the prep. I know how frustrating it can be when the websites and prep books are just not enough. What many tutors just do not get is that for these tests, the student does not need a teacher-like presentation of the material, the student needs to know exactly what to do to prep for these altogether unique tests.

I get it, though. My GRE and GMAT prep tutoring is not just my experience and academic credentials (I got 'em both, though), or even how well I know the material. It's much more about my understanding what YOU need to do, how you need to do it and my ability to figure out what is holding you back. It's also about communicating the same concept in any number of ways, so every student can get it. This is what good tutoring is all about.

I totally get it...and I get you, remember, I've been there myself.

Let's try a session, and get you the help you need!

GMAT,

GMAT

My GMAT tutoring is specifically designed to meet the stated objectives of the test. The GMAT wants us to combine information with logic and reasoning to find solutions to problems. So, I try to show you how to do just this. My instruction is therefore divided into three separate parts: The information, the logic and reasoning, and (perhaps most important of all) how to combine the information with the logic and reasoning. The information is the academic skills (math, verbal and writing) the GMAT expects us to know. Even though most students look at learning these skills as the main focus of their preparation, the reality is that this is only the starting point. The second part of my instruction focuses on the logical skills. Together, we will define these logical skills as a set of teachable general principles. These principles are practical and simple to understand. The third and final part of the instruction shows students how these principles can be easily applied to a wide range of academic concepts to solve problems. I have found that when you combine these three lessons, you can effectively understand exactly what each question is asking for and exactly how to approach the answer process.

GRE

I remember about 5 years ago when I was looking for a GRE tutor. The first tutor I used had an Ivy League degree and the second tutor had a PhD in Math. I couldn’t understand a word either of them said to me. You see, they were total geniuses, and I’m not. They couldn’t speak my language. Next, I turned to the prep books. I was amazed at how easy they made everything seem…until I realized they wrote the questions they were telling us how to answer. Then I understood why they always said stuff like “This is a good question for plugging in numbers, and the number 7 works really well here…” My approach to tutoring for the GRE is much simpler: First, here are the “A, B, Cs” and “1, 2, 3s” we need to know and here is how we are going to learn them. Second, here is how we de-code GRE questions to make sense of them. Third, practice, practice, practice… I give every GRE student a personalized plan for GRE success and then I help the student execute the plan. With an organized and sensible prep plan, EVERY student can score well on the GRE…including you. Please take the GRE seriously, because your score really does matter. Grad school admission is ultra-competitive and it is the key to you fulfilling your academic and professional dreams. If you are ready to work, I am ready to help you reach your dreams!

Encouraging

Scott and I had a great lesson yesterday. He was extremely encouraging and put my anxieties about math at ease! I am really glad that I was able to work with him. He is very knowledgeable and professional, and knew his information very well

Knowledge tutor

Scott is a patient tutor. And The way he taught me to do critical reasoning and writing are awesome. I have more confident to do GMAT after his lessons. I had some family issue that had to cancel his lessons couple time at last minute. But his was understanding and were still patient with me. I very appreciated it.

Work with Scott! He's direct, reliable and very helpful

Working with Scott has been awesome because I feel like he takes a very tailored approach to where you are and meets you there. I worked with Scott through GRE quant tutoring and have found these sessions to be very helpful! Anyone who comes from a heavy verbal background who's afraid of math, I'd highly recommend!

Great 1st meeting

Scott was very understanding of my current Gre skills. He taught me strategies that I have already started to implement. He was gentle with correction and yet honest. He gave encouragement and challenge to be mindful and committed to this journey. Scott - I look forward to our next Gre meeting!

A tutor that truly cares about your success

Scott has helped me on GMAT prep for a little over a month now. His methods for attacking the verbal passages are remarkable, and he is very patient while helping me understand the quant concepts. Though he is very busy, he is flexible with scheduling. Would highly recommend taking tutoring sessions with him!

He knows his stuff!

Scott is great to work with. I used him for the GMAT. He is a more informal, funny guy who cares about his students. This makes the lessons more fun and entertaining. He really tries to tailor what is taught to each student and their needs and he has come up with some really great ways to approach problems with a "systematic" type approach. Scott is great and he helped me increase 90 points on the GMAT in two weeks.

Scott is both efficient and proficient

Scott knows the GMAT inside and out, along with the different studying mediums (in this case Kaplan). He knows how to help students get the most bang for their buck. Scott understands what questions are the most likey to appear on the test, and he can judge the capacity of his students in a way that helps him create a lesson plan to benefit his students as much as possible.

Introspective From Beginning to End

For our first meeting Scott asked what schools did I have planned. He then broke down the things it would take to get to the score I needed to get into these schools. His initial assessments down to the assigned work may seem exhaustive at first but is required to right fit you accordingly. Looking forward to my dream score. 700+ is what Scott has said if I entrust in him would be possible. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and have an open mind to his teachings.
