My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. As a summa cum laude graduate, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. As one of the top 50 Wyzant tutors nationwide for several years, I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of students realize their own potential and see their grades and test scores improve. I teach English and SAT prep at a high school in the Bronx and I am completing a master's degree in education.
I specialize in math and English tutoring for tests such as the GRE, GMAT, SAT, ACT, GED/TASC, ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT, and the NYS Regents exams. I also teach English and math to homeschooled students in grades 4-12.
One of my goals for each session is to keep the student challenged, but not overwhelmed. I assign homework after every lesson, and I can provide periodic assessments and progress reports if needed.
Lessons can take place in person at a location that is convenient for you, or online in Wyzant's virtual classroom. For in-person lessons, I require 24-hour notice of cancellation or shortened lesson duration, but I offer free lessons online to make up any missed time.
I am happy to answer any questions.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies! My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. I cannot stress how happy I am to have Tiffany as my tutor for the GRE! She is patient, flexible, and teaches very well. She provides step by step solutions to problems, thoroughly goes through the homework's that she provides after every lesson, and accompanies the homework's with detailed notes.
Tiffany has been helping me learn exactly what I need to know for this exam and I am excited to continue working with her!
She has helped clarify many math GRE concepts for me. i am very bad at math and she has taken the time to explain things step by step. Many math textbooks leave out steps but she makes sure i understant everything.
She is helping my daughter on the math section of the SAT. She is very helpful and patient. She replies quickly and sends helpful problems for the student.
Tiffany definitely knows her subject like her own hand. During our first lesson I felt very comfortable, at ease, with a gut feeling that I'm in the reliable hands. I now feel more confident that I will be able to pass the test. I'm looking forward to learning more math with Tiffany!
Tiffany is a great tutor who comes prepared with practice problems and important tips that have helped me master the GRE topics in such a short amount of time. Tiffany is patient and answers my questions in a clear and concise matter. I will continue to use Tiffany until my GRE test date!
With the Algebra Regents only two weeks away, my daughter is very grateful to have a tutor like Tiffany to see her through the home stretch! She honed in right away on what my daughter needs help with. I highly recommend this tutor!
I have been prepping on my own with Magoosh and Kaplan for the GRE. After a terrible quant score I realized I needed more help. Tiffany in one lesson has significantly increased my confidence and knowledge. I have much work ahead but feel with her help I will get the score I need. She is an organized and efficient teacher. She reviews her study plan and an estimated amount of hours to reach score goals. Her approach was perfect for me.
Tiffany was very patient with my daughter and took the time to go back and go over some foundational material. She explained things so that my daughter understood it and did not move on until she did. I will definitely continue to use Tiffany. Excellent tutor!
Tiffany has helped me move from some basic topics to more advanced in a short period of time. I now feel more confident about taking the tasc test. She is very knowledgeable and a great tutor! Looking forward to continuing to work with her.
My two girls are homeschooling and study with Tiffany twice a week. They look forward to the meetings and love working with her. Tiffany helps them improve their skills and gain confidence
Tiffany is working with my daughter to prepare for the ISEE exam. Thus far it has gone very well. My daughter likes her very much and understands her lessons. We will happily continue to work with Tiffany until she completes the exam.
I am HORRIBLE at math, but since working with Tiffany, I already feel more competent. My first time taking the GRE, I was mostly guessing during the math sections, however just a few weeks since starting with Tiffany, I'm not feeling so nervous about retaking the test!
Tiffany is helping me with the GREs, and even after one lesson with her, I feel confident that I'm going to improve my scores tremendously. She is patient, encouraging, and extremely informative. I highly recommend her.
Tiffany is helping me understand basic number theory in GMAT context. She is also teaching me more efficient ways to solve problems in a short amount of time.
Tiffany has been tutoring my 3rd grade daughter in math and it has been wonderful. My daughter is become engaged and much more confident in her abilities as a result. Highly recommend her!
Tiffany has been tutoring my 4th grade son in reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary for several months and we plan to continue for a while. She is incredibly well prepared and makes the most of their time together. She has a very confident, calm and positive demeanor. We highly recommend Tiffany!
Tiffany is working with my 6th grade daughter who struggles with math. With Tiffany's guidance she is able to work logically through her math problems so that they become alive and make sense to her. Tiffany helps her to study for tests and not be overwhelmed by the material but to break it down step by step.
I wish we had Tiffany's help sooner in the school year - she is amazing!
Tiffany has a way with explaining things perfectly. It's been a long time since I've taken any math classes and she goes back to the basics and teaches you. I love that! I have a great feeling about my score on my up coming GRE.
Tiffany does an excellent job with breaking down a complicated problem and comes prepared with great example questions for each session.
Tiffany made Algebra II fun and engaged my son in challenging himself right at the start. I recommend her highly.
I contacted Tiffany with about a month to go before my second attempt at making the quantitative GRE score I need for my top choice graduate school. She is very organized and incredibly knowledgeable about the test itself. She gave me lots of strategies for thinking logically through the types of problems I'll need to answer, as well as lots of homework questions for practice. I feel MUCH more prepared than I did the first time around.
I had only a weekend to prepare myself for the test and she helped at lot. If I would have had more time, I met her once a week to really take advantage of her solid knowledge about the test and her patient way of teaching.
Tiffany is an awesome SAT prep tutor. My score increased by 250 points with her :)
She is very patient and easy to work with.
A great tutor with an individualized approach who instilled a great sense of confidence in our daughter. Intelligent and caring with a positive attitude. Thank you.
My first lesson with Tiffany included a review of some common geometry problems on the GRE. She was patient, knowledgeable, and explained everything I was struggling with. She arrived on time and ready to teach with many practice examples. I am looking forward to our next meeting, which will include more practice math problems and writing and reading comprehension strategies for the GRE. I definitely recommend Tiffany if you are looking for someone who is up to date with the GREs and knows her material.
Tiffany is clear. She takes the time to explain and she writes everything down so that I have a full deck of formulas to attach to the problem.
In addition, she is on time for the lessons, and in emailing homework.
Tiffany has been extremely helpful, reliable, and thorough in helping me with my homework - she is the reason I am graduating with my masters at NYU! Thank you for all of your help, Tiffany.
Tiffany is a great tutor. My daughter and I are very pleased with her tutoring skills. Tiffany is very helpful. Thank you, WyzAnt, and thank you, tiffany.
Tiffany has been great with scheduling and is very prompt in responding. She's also a great listener, which I feel that people take for granted at times, but she will sit and listen and helped identify where my struggles were in my studies.
She has a great wealth of knowledge and material at her disposal and has exceeded all expectations I had going into my first couple sessions.
I wholeheartedly support and recommend Tiffany!
My 10 yr old 5th grade son just had his first session with Tiffany. She was waiting for us at her office, was very good with my son, and was good with me too. My son is cramming, basically, for specialized middle school exams, and Tiffany is working with him on the OLSAT test as well as math and science curriculum material. She listened to me describe what we have done so far at home, and she picked up with my son right away. She engaged my son and did not treat him childishly at all. (He said that she was a better tutor for him than I was. Can't argue with that!) My son is looking forward to next time with Tiffany.
Tiffany is a very patient, very good tutor. My boys had gone to her since last year 9th grade and now 10th. She knows how to teach and get her students to understand the material and love the subject they are learning.
I highly recommend Tiffany. She helped tutor my daughter for her SAT and my daughter's test score went up by 280 points. She engaged my daughter and helped to give her the confidence and the techniques she needed to navigate through the test more efficiently. I am very grateful and appreciative for her help, it was money well spent.
My daughter just started working with Tiffany but she already feels comfortable. She was helpful to both of us in explaining the differences between the SAT and ACT and she has the materials and the expertise to help my daughter prepare for either one. She's professional, responsive and well-organized. I'm happy we found her.
My understanding of the SAT Math section was choppy. Although I had taken group tutoring lessons before, I didn't feel as if I had a complete grasp on how to solve SAT specific math questions. Tiffany not only reviewed the material, but also helped me solve the questions in a limited time frame. I'm thankful for her thorough and in-depth teaching.
Working with Tiffany has been a lovely experience. I feel very prepared to take the GRE (and I am someone who never feels prepared to take standardized tests). She is patient, gives manageable amounts of homework pertinent to the lessons from the previous session, and she creates a fantastic learning environment. Couldn't recommend her more highly!
Tiffany is a great tutor. She will break everything down to the T so you can understand each part of the lesson and takes her time and doesn't rush through the lesson. I would recommend Tiffany to anyone looking for a tutor.
Tiffany seems very kind and my daughter is fond of her. She's very focused on finding my daughter's weak points and you can see she does all she can to try and help. I definitely would recommend trying sessions with her.
I am glad I found Tiffany as a tutor. She helped me to understand the equations I didn't figure out the first time. She breaks everything down, and she answered all of my questions without any issues. She was very patient, and she did not rush our session. I would recommend her to anyone I know who needs help as well. Thanks Tiffany!
Congratulations on passing the GED math test!! All your hard work has paid off. I'm so glad I could be there to support you as you worked to achieve this goal.
Tiffany is doing a very good job of identifying the problems my son has with algebra. She gives him problems that cover the areas that give him trouble. My son feel very comfortable with her and her teaching methods.
Tiffany provided a very useful digest of the first SAT tutoring session with my daughter, which included weaknesses to focus on going forward. My daughter reported that the tutoring time was well spent, and Tiffany was easy to work with and presented the material in a clear and organized manner. We are off to a very good start.
I am very happy to have Tiffany as my daughter's tutor. She is very happy with Tiffany's craft.
I have been working with Tiffany from about June of this year for GED preparation. I love her. She is attentive, kind, very professional, always very reachable on the phone, flexible and most importantly she goes out of her way to find out information for me and she didn't have to do it. I recommend her because she is a fantastic teacher!!! I am making progress and she is a big part of it. She is helping me to reach my goal.
I am happy to report that Tereza passed all the sections of the GED test on her first try and she just got admitted to FIT for Fall 2013!
Tiffany was willing to coordinate a tutoring session with my friend -- that I purchased -- to help him prepare for the policy academy. It was easy to discuss with her my expectations. She was very prompt in responding to my questions, and prepared a detailed report after the session. My friend was very pleased with the results.
Tiffany continues to bring clarity to me in my logic class. I mistakenly signed up for a 201 level course and w/ Tiffany's tutoring I can see my way through it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience teaching Algebra 1 to K-12 students, as well as adults who are taking a college course or preparing for an exam.
For K-12 students, I am familiar with the common core approach to Algebra 1, and I can help students better understand what they are learning at school and prepare for the Algebra 1 Regents. I cannot directly assist students with school homework that will be graded by the teacher, but I can work with the student on similar problems.
I tutor for Algebra 2 for middle/high school students and adults. I help students better understand Algebra 2 concepts and prepare for the Algebra 2/Trig Regents, ACT/SAT, TASC/GED, and GRE/GMAT. I can also work with adults who are in a college course in algebra 2, trigonometry, or college algebra.
For middle school and high school students, I can often create problems during the tutoring session that are very similar to the problems in the student's textbook or homework. I cannot directly assist students with school homework if the homework will be graded by the teacher.
Over the last 3 years, I have helped many students improve their math and English skills to prepare for the ASVAB test. One of my students raised his score from 22 to 35 after just a few weeks of tutoring, and now he is joining the army! I begin with a diagnostic test of the student's current abilities, which has the same types of questions found on the actual test. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of each question--not just the right answer, but the strategy the student can use to arrive at the right answer in seconds. I also work with students to help them prepare for the ASVAB subject tests by preparing overview lessons on each subject area, practice tests, and material for further study at home.
I recently took (and earned an A) in an undergraduate discrete math course as part of my second bachelor's degree in math (degree in progress). I can help other students who are taking undergraduate discrete math to better understand the material and prepare for exams. The textbook I used in class was Discrete Math and Its Applications, 7th edition (by Kenneth Rosen).
I have 6 years of experience providing private tutoring and homeschooling for children in grades 4-6. This summer I will begin teaching in a public school while pursuing my masters in education through the NYC Teaching Fellows. I will receive initial certification to teach English for grades K-12.
My goal with children is to introduce and/or reinforce the skills taught in school, while providing fun, caring, and encouragement to help them further explore their world and develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Over the summer break, I can help students to bridge the gap from one grade to the next, so they are fully prepared for the new school year.
I can work with the student’s textbooks, or I can bring my own teaching materials and activities, which are always age-appropriate and aligned with NY state common core educational standards. I am also happy to communicate with my students' teachers to coordinate our efforts.
I am available for tutoring sessions in the morning, after school, or on evenings and weekends. I can travel to the student's home or any other location that is convenient for the family.
I mainly tutor English for test preparation, but I also have experience helping high school and college students with English literature and writing assignments. I help students plan, research, and organize their papers. I also provide guidance on writing, while making sure that the writing itself comes from the student. I can also help students learn to proofread and edit their writing.
Over the past 7 years, I have tutored many students for the GED (and the TASC since it became the test for NYS). Most of the students I have worked with have passed all the sections of the test on their first attempt. I am qualified to tutor for every section of both tests. I focus on teaching the core concepts tested, as well as proven test-taking strategies and time management skills that help students finish quickly and accurately.
Geometry is my favorite math subject and I love not only helping struggling students succeed in geometry, but also instilling in them the same passion for the subject. I have over 6 years of experience tutoring geometry for elementary school through high school. The subjects I cover include area, perimeter, volume, surface area, lines and angles, polygons, triangles, circles, geometry proofs and logic, coordinate geometry, and trigonometry.
I offer GMAT prep for all the sections of the GMAT, but most of my GMAT tutoring experience (over the last six years) has been for the quantitative section. I have taken the test myself several times and consistently scored at or close to the 99th percentile overall.
Based on discussions with the test taker and a review of any results of previous tests or practice tests, I can create an individualized plan of study for each person. However, I maintain the flexibility to change the plan as the test taker's skills progress.
On the new GRE, I scored in the 99th percentile in verbal and 97th percentile in quant. I tutor for the entire GRE test, but most students come to me for help on the math section. I share the GRE test-taking strategies I use on the test, but I also focus on making sure the test taker has a solid foundation in the core math and English concepts tested.
I worked for several years as an instructor and about a year as an Education Director for an English language school in Manhattan that prepared students for various tests of English, including the IELTS, so I am very familiar with the test and its requirements. In total, I have about five years of experience tutoring ESL and the IELTS, specifically. I also earned a TEFL certificate in teaching English as a second language.
I have been tutoring for the ISEE (all levels) for about 6 years with great results. Since I specialize in both math and English tutoring, I can tutor for all sections of this test. With every lesson, I don't just teach to the test, but strive to improve the student's core skills in reading, writing, math, and reasoning. However, I do share my best test-taking strategies and encourage students to use them, because I feel they help develop reasoning ability.
I tutor students for the SAT literature subject test every year, but I can also help high school and college students with literature assignments.
I have 6 years of experience tutoring students for the NYS English Language Arts and Mathematics exams, as well as the Geometry Regents, Integrated Algebra Regents, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2/Trig Regents.
My goal is to reinforce and expand on what the student is learning in school so that the student is fully prepared for success on the exam. I use current textbooks approved by the state, as well as official practice material from previous Regents exams.
I tutor for the math section of the new SAT, as well as the SAT Math Level 1 and Level 2 subject tests. I use the most recent test prep books, online resources, and my own material. My recent SAT students improved on previous scores by up to 250 points after working with me.
I tutor for the new SAT and for the SAT Subject Test in Literature. I have over six years of experience tutoring for all the different sections of the SAT. Students I have worked with have increased their scores by more than 250 points and reached the highest percentiles. For the literature test, I teach all the important literary terms and concepts. For tests, I also teach test-taking skills, including time management and guessing strategies.
I help students understand basic to advanced trigonometry topics and prepare for the Algebra 2/Trig Regents. Please note that I will not assist students with homework and that I will only use the materials that I provide for the lesson.
