My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. As a summa cum laude graduate with a master's degree in education, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. Over the last several years through Wyzant, I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of students realize their own potential and see their grades and test scores improve.

On weekdays, I am a high school teacher who teaches ELA, ESL, Living Environment, and Earth Science. On evenings and weekends, I tutor all grades but specialize in math and English for tests such as the GRE, GMAT, SAT, ACT, GED/TASC, ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT, NYS ELA/math exams, and NYS Regents exams. I also teach English and math (up to Algebra 2) to homeschooled students in grades 4-12. Lessons can take place in person at a location that is convenient for you, or online in Wyzant's virtual classroom. I am available on weekdays for online lessons and on weekends for in-person lessons.

One of my goals for each session is to keep the student challenged, but not overwhelmed. I usually assign homework after every lesson, and I can provide periodic assessments and progress reports as needed.

I am happy to answer any questions, so feel free to contact me by email or schedule a time to speak by phone. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

GMAT,

GMAT

I offer GMAT prep for all the sections of the GMAT, but most of my GMAT tutoring experience (over the last six years) has been for the quantitative section. I have taken the test myself several times and consistently scored at or close to the 99th percentile overall. Based on discussions with the test taker and a review of any results of previous tests or practice tests, I can create an individualized plan of study for each person. However, I maintain the flexibility to change the plan as the test taker's skills progress.
GRE

GRE

On the new GRE, I scored in the 99th percentile in verbal and 97th percentile in quant. I tutor for the entire GRE test, but most students come to me for help on the math section. I share the GRE test-taking strategies I use on the test, but I also focus on making sure the test taker has a solid foundation in the core math and English concepts tested.

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

I am a current NYS-certified teacher in TESOL, grades K-12. I am also a former education director of an English language school in midtown Manhattan. I have taught English learners from all over the world. I currently teach high schoolers in a public school, but I have also taught children to adults in private and public settings. My lessons cover the four essential skills in English: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The activities and exercises I design for my students integrate these four skills for faster progress. I also provide homework exercises so that my students have plenty of opportunities to practice between lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have 6 years of experience providing private tutoring and homeschooling for children in grades 4-6. This summer I will begin teaching in a public school while pursuing my masters in education through the NYC Teaching Fellows. I will receive initial certification to teach English for grades K-12. My goal with children is to introduce and/or reinforce the skills taught in school, while providing fun, caring, and encouragement to help them further explore their world and develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Over the summer break, I can help students to bridge the gap from one grade to the next, so they are fully prepared for the new school year. I can work with the student’s textbooks, or I can bring my own teaching materials and activities, which are always age-appropriate and aligned with NY state common core educational standards. I am also happy to communicate with my students' teachers to coordinate our efforts. I am available for tutoring sessions in the morning, after school, or on evenings and weekends. I can travel to the student's home or any other location that is convenient for the family.

Over the last 3 years, I have helped many students improve their math and English skills to prepare for the ASVAB test. One of my students raised his score from 22 to 35 after just a few weeks of tutoring, and now he is joining the army! I begin with a diagnostic test of the student's current abilities, which has the same types of questions found on the actual test. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of each question--not just the right answer, but the strategy the student can use to arrive at the right answer in seconds. Personable and patient math sherpa

Tiffany was kind and patient with my daughter who is good at math but has a sub par algebra teacher this year. She helped my daughter begin to understand the concepts that he was not clear on.

Great SAT tutor

My daughter and her friend worked with Tiffany preparing for their SATs. She was extremely helpful in preparing them for the English section. They did not work on the math portion with her. She is kind, patient and both girls felt very prepared. We hope to continue working with Tiffany in the near future. Highly Recommend.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Tiffany explained percentages to my daughter until she got it. Tiffany was very patient and engaging. She kindly sent the materials to me and pointed out what to work on. She has a way to put the child who might be nervous about tutoring at ease. We were very happy about our first tutoring session.

Tiffany has helped/taught me many important things such as Math, ELA, and Grammar. What I like about Tiffany is that she teaches well and in such a enthusiastic way. She is also very kind and patient. I have improved in many ways ever since she started tutoring me. I would definitely recommend Tiffany to others looking for a tutor. I think Tiffany is a great tutor.

Excellent tutor

We had Tiffany tutor ELA/Math for our son last year and were very happy with the results. This year she is working with our 7th grade daughter and once again our 5th grade son. She is wonderful, punctual and professional. Our kids love working with her. Very responsive to emails. Highly recommended.

Tiffany definitely knows her subject like her own hand. During our first lesson I felt very comfortable, at ease, with a gut feeling that I'm in the reliable hands. I now feel more confident that I will be able to pass the test. I'm looking forward to learning more math with Tiffany!
