In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the last eleven years I have aided college student with their graduate admissions process. I have worked with numerous students in developing and writing personal statements which have gained them admission into the graduate programs of their choice. I am a university professor who, for over eight years has taught writing enhanced courses. The goal of these writing enhanced courses is to perfect the writing skills of students.
I have had over 25 years of experience in public speaking in both my professional and personal life. As a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney for over 14 years I tried numerous cases and as a University Professor for over 10 year I have lectured to classes as large as 35 students. I require my students to give presentations to the class and successfully coached students who have a variety of public speaking issues. In law school, I was a member of the University's Moot Court Team, which required making legal arguments to a panel of Judges and received the Order of Barristers for excellence in legal arguments. I have coached numerous high school mock trial teams and have served as judge on numerous occasions for New York City-wide competitions. I have served on the Share Our Strength, Taste of the Nation New York City Event Committee since 1997 which required me to speak to and train a group of over 100 volunteers. I have also trained police officers at the New York City Police Academy in the art of testifying.
I have taught for over 10 years at the University level and have worked with many students to successfully improve their performance. I have experience analyzing students' strengths and weaknesses and customizing a plan that works for that indiviual student, whether they are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic/ manipulative learner. By understanding the student's needs, I can develop with the students study habits, writing skills and learning techniques that will serve them throughout their academic career.
