About Pedro

I'm Pedro, I am a graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. I spent the last 4 years working as a translator, interpreter and a grant writer, so I have excellent language and writing skills. Before that, I taught English as a Foreign Language at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I've been tutoring since 2009, so have plenty of experience with one-on-one instruction. I am a native English and Spanish speaker and have extensive professional experience in both languages.

When I was a student I excelled as a test taker, receiving high scores on the AP US Government and Politics, AP English Language, AP Literature, AP Spanish Language, and AP U.S. History exams, as well as a perfect score on the English portion of the SATs. I also speak French, which I began learning in High School, so I know hat picking up a language after childhood is like. I am energetic, and love learning, so if there is anything I don't know, I guarantee I will go out and research and become acquainted with it. I love using my skills and knowledge to help my students learn and grow.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

English is my second language, having learned it as a very small child. I therefore know what it is like to learn English. I have lived in the United States for a decade now, and have mastered my accent. I have very often had people tell me that they don't believe that I am not a native speaker, as I do not have a foreign accent. I have also been learning French for a few years, so I know what the challenges are of learning a language as an adult.
I have worked with kids, between 8 and 15, so I can handle those situations very well. In college I help many friends an acquaintances with their Spanish, both written and spoken, so I can handle more advanced academic situations. Also, because of my command of English from an early age, I was often called upon to lead both Spanish and English speakers through an introduction into their new environment. I have also done professional translation work for travel agencies, and political organizations. I have a flexible schedule and would love to help anyone master the difficult nuance of pronunciation in English.

Government & Politics

I have a bachelor's degree in political science from Boston College. I graduated in 2010. After high school, I received a 5 on the Government and Politics AP exam.
