About Elizabeth

Hello! My name is Elizabeth, and I am a recent graduate of a joint MBA/MA program at the Johns Hopkins University and Maryland Institute College of Art. I'm an enthusiastic problem solver that can help you tackle even the most daunting and difficult academic challenges!

Graduate Education:
I am a recent MBA/MA graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and Maryland Institute College of Art. An MBA and MA in Design Leadership may sound like a strange combination, but it's actually a terrific new graduate program that bridges the gap between business and design by approaching problem solving in new and innovative ways. While at Johns Hopkins, I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Entrepreneurial Finance, and led a group of students to create a $2M+ student-led venture capital fund to support their peers' businesses.

Undergraduate Education:
I graduated with honors from Georgetown University, with a degree in Economics and Government. While at Georgetown, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a Teacher's Assistant for two years, a role typically reserved for PhD students. Helping teach an undergraduate 'Principles of Macroeconomics' course, I worked closely with a section of 40 students to ensure they each understood the fundamentals of Macroeconomics.

Teaching Style:
My teaching style is creative, interactive, and innovative. In my eight years of tutoring and teaching, I have learned that the best way to understand and retain knowledge is through a blended approach of hearing, seeing, and doing. I prepare a tailored lesson plan for every session to ensure our time together is challenging and brings you closer to your academic goals. Whether it's editing papers, reviewing for an exam, or completing a homework assignment, I guarantee that my interactive and blended approach will be more effective and more fun.

Areas of Expertise:
I tutor a wide variety of subjects, including ACT/SAT/GMAT/AP exam preparation, college/graduate school application preparation, mathematics, writing, social sciences, history, business software, marketing, accounting, economics, and general study skills.

As a student I diligently prepared for many AP, undergraduate and graduate entry exams. I earned a score of 35/36 on the ACTs, a 800 in SAT Math, and 5s on a variety of AP exams. I hold myself to a high standard and aim for the tutoring experience to be as valuable as possible for each of my students. As these subjects are quite wide-ranging, please message me with your tutoring need and I will honestly evaluate if I am the right fit for the job.

Work Experience:
Prior to pursuing graduate education, I worked for three years as a healthcare strategy consultant at a large professional services firm, known as the global leader in healthcare consulting. There, I was actively involved in the firm's Developmental and Training Committee. As part of this effort, I co-authored and led trainings on Information Visualization and Data Analytics. Additionally, in my free time, I volunteered as a tutor at a local non-profit teaching intermediate English to international students.

Currently, I am an entrepreneur and am working as a tutor on the side to supplement my new and growing business.

I wish each of you the best in your academic endeavors! I look forward to hearing from you and discussing how we can work together to achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am an entrepreneur and previously worked as a management strategy consultant at a top consulting firm. I am a recent MBA graduate and studied economics and business in undergraduate. I am deeply knowledgeable of a wide range of business topics, including finance, accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, and business writing.

Volleyball

I have been playing volleyball since I was 12. I played four years of varsity volleyball in high school, two years of traveling club, and two years on the club volleyball team at University. I have spent time teaching JV as well as middle school players, and my previous coaches put emphasis on coaching and technique. I learned many great techniques from my coaches, and would love to pass them on and to be of help. I feel that I am both qualified to tutor volleyball and also have the personality to be a great coach.
