SUNY Westchester Community College (Liberal Arts)
My name is Sebastien. I graduated from Westchester Community College with two degrees: an Associate's in the Liberal Arts and another in the Performing Arts. I have a wide range of interests and as a result am able to tutor in a few different areas of learning. My specialties are guitar and French - I have been playing guitar for 11 years now, and have been speaking French since I can remember.
My most significant achievement in the area of education has been acquiring a "Guitar Activity Specialist" position with the Sports & Arts in Schools Foundation, an after-school program aimed at improving and optimizing children's learning. I taught middle school children in Brooklyn, then moved to a grade school in the Bronx, and finally quit the job to pursue other interests.
My method of teaching is not traditional. I like to cater to my students' interests and teach in such a way that they will look forward to the lessons and have fun getting the work done.
I was an excellent student in middle and high school, and did exceptionally well in my math classes.
I am bilingual in French and English and proficient at Spanish - I have been speaking both French and English since I can remember, and have been educated in the technicalities of both languages since I was in grade school. Spanish, being similar to French, was fairly easy to pick up at school and I studied it for 7-8 years.
I have always done well with English as it is spoken, written, and read. I scored a 790/800 on the writing portion of the SATs back when I took them in '07 - '08.
I have been teaching guitar privately for the past 6 years. I can teach you not just about the instrument but also about many other aspects of music and music theory you may have questions about.
If you're ready and motivated to learn, we can do this! In the process of teaching and learning, I will try to engender as much as possible a healthy environment that will push students' interests and encourage them to learn in ways that they will enjoy as much as possible. Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
