Thanks for visiting my profile! I have been tutoring through WyzAnt for more than four years. During this time I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. My objective is to get students prepared and confident in the course they are having difficulty with. I specialize in preparing students for major test such as the SAT, ACT, Algebra 2/Trig Regents, Physics/Chemistry Regents, AP Physics B/C Exam, and AP Calculus Exam.
I don’t consider myself to be a conventional tutor, as my methods can sometimes be described as unorthodox. Not only do I teach students how to correctly and clearly solve a problem, but I try to get them to realize that only through hard work, and patience will they succeed. I believe in good work ethics, honesty, and do my best to provide a high quality lesson. People have told me that I have a good sense of humor, and, apparently, that I am a huge nerd (as well as a tech geek).
My goal is to eventually have the student not need me anymore; in other words, become independent thinkers. By this I mean, the student is ready to handle problems on their own. I go by the motto, "if you give a man a fish you feed them for the day, if you teach a man to fish you feed him for life." Once this happens, I will have done my job, and will move onto helping someone else in need. That being written, there isn't a better feeling than when students send me an email later on telling me they got accepted into a great university, or college (BC, Stanford, UCLA, Brown, NYU, Columbia, RPI, UConn, Cornell, UDel, Dartmouth just to name a few).
As for my credentials, I have a BS in Physics, with a minor in math, and education from the University of California San Diego, UCSD. During my time in California I was an assistant teacher for both a sixth and eighth grade science class. I have been tutoring both college and high school physics and math for about five years. I recently finished my graduate program at Stony Brook University and received a Masters in Education for teaching physics. I was also a TA in the physics department at Stony Brook, where I had to opportunity to teach college level physics. On top of this, I am a New York State Certified Physics teacher, and teach AP physics 1/2/C, Regents physics, Regents chemistry, and intro to engineering.
At the moment I teach physics at one of the best high school in New York state (in the top three). On top of this, I am an adjunct professor in Physics at Stony Brook University.
As you may already guessed from the last paragraph, tutoring is not my primary job. I do it more as a hobby, which I have enjoyed doing over the years. That being written, coupled with my busy schedule, I am a highly selective tutor. I apologize in advance if I am unable to be of service to you.
As for recreational activities, I enjoy rock climbing, tennis, solving puzzles, learning to play the piano, and cycling. I thank you for reading through all of this, and I invite you to email me any questions or concerns.
With warm regards,
To my College Level Students,
The following subjects are what I tutor: General Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Thermal physics, Statistical physics, Optics, General Chemistry, Advance Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Complex analysis, real analysis, and finally computational/mathematical physics. Hi there,

We are extremely pleased with Adnan's tutoring and his amazing math knowledge. Our son is very comfortable working with Adnan.
My daughter continues to improve her math skills thanks to Adnan! His calm demeanor and interactive teaching style prove most effective in her gaining a much better understanding of algebra 2. He is always prompt and courteous and I would recommend him highly.
10 was so impressed with Adnan's ability as a teacher! In one lesson, she walked away with a better understanding of algebra 2 as well as feeling more confident in her abilities!! I am so glad we found Adnan!
He makes everything very easy to understand! Great tutor. I will be using him again when I take precalculus. He really wants you to understand and succeed.
Great tutor. Very knowledgeable, prepared and convenient. Very glad to have found him! I think he just might get me through this semester!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken courses in elementary differential equations, ordinary differential equations, as well as partial differential equations. I can help a student to understand anything ranging from the characteristic equation all the way to third order non-linear, non-homogeneous differential equations.
I tutor basic reading, writing, math, and science skills to children of age 5 and up. With respect to reading, I help students with phonetics, comprehension, pronunciation, and analyzing the material. In terms of writing, I focus on legibility, spelling, grammar, and getting thoughts into actual writing. As for Math, I tutor arithmetic, geometry, pre-algebra, algebra, and trigonometry.
I have used Mathematica for about two years now, and have been tutoring beginner students for about a year. I have used Mathematica to build basic programs, and modules for my computational class. I can show you how to solve simple physical problems, and make motion animation of these problems using this software. Like maple or MATLAB, Mathematica is a powerful computation language/tool that requires time and patients. I can tutor students anywhere from understanding and using the basics, all the way to graphing spherical harmonics and solving second order differential equations using Mathematica.
