I tutor in Westchester County and some surrounding areas. I work and live in Westchester County and I am able to meet with students that are both near my place of work and near my place of residence.

I have been teaching for almost two decads and I love what I do. Helping students one on one is even more of a pleasure. Being able to see the students succeed in something they struggled with is a wonderful reward and fuels my enthusiasm and passion.

I have tutored for over 17 years preparing students for state exams as well as SAT subject tests. I have taught every science course offered by my schools. These courses include HS Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Earth Science, Forensics, Physical Science, and general middle school science.

I look forward to working with you.

The test consists of five prose passages, each one accompanied by multiple-choice test questions. Different passage types are included to provide variety. Some questions refer to underlined portions of the passage and offer several alternatives to the underlined portion. You must decide which choice is most appropriate in the context of the passage. Some questions ask about an underlined portion, a section of the passage, or the passage as a whole. You must decide which choice best answers the question posed. Many questions include "NO CHANGE" to the underlined portion or the passage as one of the choices. The questions are numbered consecutively. Each question number corresponds to an underlined portion in the passage or to a box located in the passage. --ACT Site

Organic Chemistry

My major in undergrad was Biochemistry. I successfully completed Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 with high marks. Given a syllabus and the proper materials, I can help you navigate your particular course and it's objectives. Organic chemistry is a complex subject. Different colleges and courses focus on different aspects. The carbon backbone of these molecules provides for an exponential number of structural arrangements as the number of carbon atoms increase. Understanding how the bonding in these carbon compounds arrange, react, form and break is key to understanding this course.

Special Needs

ADHD

ADHD

In 11 years of teaching, I have had a wealth of experience with ADD and ADHD students. I was diagnosed with the disorder when I was younger in middle school. My son also has the disorder along with Autism. Most of my knowledge has been from working with the special education departments of previous schools to meet the needs of my inclusion class students. In these classes nearly half of my students were ADD or ADHD and received 504 accommodations. I work with students through redirection and focusing techniques. It is imperative to have an understanding of how the disorder effects the brain and different treatments that can help control or subdue the symptoms.

I have taught the Regents curriculum for NYS for well over a decade. Science, math, and even global history have been subjects taught and tutored by me. Now with common core standards, these exams have changed. I am actively involved with training for the new standards that may be adopted by NYS as well.

Knowledgeable Tutor

Joanne has worked with my son on chemistry and he found that she was able to make it seem easy. We've only had a couple of lessons but so far he's had really good reviews.

Very Good Experience

Joanne has been a godsend in helping my daughter review for the Regents exam in 11th grade chemistry. Very concise and left no stone unturned. My daughter feels ready to take it on!

First meeting excellent!

Joanne was on time for the tutoring session. My grandson felt she was very helpful in showing him some of the Chemistry points he needs help with. She was professional and was able to touch base with the chemistry teacher to make sure she was going over all the important aspects of the course that would help him understand the subject. He feels confident if he works with Joanne he will do well on the Chemistry Regents.

Great Tudor!!!! Extremely Conscienctous and Patient!!!

It was about Christmas break last year that my daughter's 11th grade Advance Placement (AP) Chemistry had gotten beyond my ability to help. Fortunately we found Joanne and she was able to provide our daughter with whatever level of help she needed. Joanne comes to our house and provides tutoring in the student's environment - which helped to improve the learning process for us. There were many times when Joanne re-taught concepts that my daughter's High School teacher had made overly complex. Joanne has worked hard during her career to learn ways to teach concepts so that the student has an easier time understanding the subject. Once Joanne simplified the concept and spent one-on-one time working through several problems - my daughter's frustration level lowered, she had a much better grasp of the subject and she was able to build upon it. A fantastic outcome for us. Joanne is very dependable, is concerned about the students grasp of information, she tries extra hard to make certain that the concept is learned (not memorized), is always prompt and on-time and she is very dedicated to the service that she provides. It is also important to mention that Joanne is very adept in most all of the sciences - not just chemistry. My wife and I highly recommend her and plan to use her again this coming school if (actually when) the need arises.

It was a pleasure working with your daughter! I am happy I was able to help out! She was wonderful!

Excellent tutor who also understands ADHD needs!

Joanne is really making a difference and I feel that we are so fortunate to have found her. She not only knows her subjects but also ways to motivate, encourage and anticipate needs. We are truly blessed.
