About Harris

I am a 21-year-old soon-to-be graduate from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Spanish. I don't have any formal tutoring experience, but I do have a lot of experience editing work and doing peer reviews in my classes. I have also privately and informally tutored several of my friends in their Spanish.

I have been playing baseball my entire life, and believe I have a very strong understanding of the game. As a result, I think I can adequately pass on my knowledge to those hoping to gain some of their own. I also play Ultimate Frisbee, and am currently the captain of my collegiate club team. The opportunity to teach new players both the fundamentals and specifics of the sport has been an incredible experience, and has vastly improved my desire and ability to continue to teach sports to those eager to learn.

I took Spanish classes from seventh grade through my senior year of college, including Honors and AP classes. Additionally, I have completed a minor in Spanish in college.

I am set to graduate with a degree in Journalism, and I am incredibly devoted to maintaining proper grammar in my writing at all times. I have experience both writing and editing in multiple writing styles.

I have always excelled with spelling, and I enjoy working with numbers. I believe I could help those who may struggle in those areas.

I have played baseball my whole life, and believe that I have a very strong understanding of the game. I would love to be able to pass my knowledge on to those looking to learn.

I am very patient and willing to put in the time to ensure that the student is learning as much as possible, regardless of the pace.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I started playing baseball when I was a little kid, and continued to play throughout my four years at college. I believe that I have a strong understanding of the game, and I take pride in my baseball IQ.

While I have never formally taught baseball, I have always considered myself to be a leader on the field, constantly trying to make sure my teammates know what to do and giving pointers throughout games and practices.

I would love for an opportunity to pass on my knowledge and love for the game of baseball to anybody looking to improve their skills.

Basketball

I played organized basketball up through my senior year of high school, and still play recreationally to this day.

My father was the coach of my team, so I definitely feel that I picked up a lot, not only about the game, but about how to teach it, as well.

I watch a lot of basketball, both professional and collegiate, and have collected a lot of useful information about different facets of the sport from there, as well.

Table Tennis

I have been playing table tennis since I was a little kid. I have always had a table in my basement, and used to play just about every day.

I have played in, and won, many informal tournaments, and although I don't have any experience teaching the sport, I definitely feel as though I have the ability to precisely explain how I have been able to improve my game.

Track & Field

I was on my school's track team for six years, and took part in many different aspects of track and field. I was primarily a jumper and sprinter, but I have experience hurdling and running longer distances.

I had coaches who successfully taught me a lot of different skills and techniques, and I believe I can emulate those teaching methods. As a veteran on my high school track and field team, I took pride in helping the younger members of the team learn the ropes and improve on their abilities.
