About Jan

I have been an educator for 30 years with experience teaching elementary, middle, high school, undergraduate and graduate students. My areas of expertise are social studies and social science, research, writing and statistical analysis, including SPSS. I can assist with all levels of school projects, including design, organization, research, graphics and writing. I am a published author and can help with the formulation, organization, research methodology and writing of capstone projects, theses and dissertations. I am familiar with online and hybrid instruction and software such as Blackboard. I am patient and I understand the academic challenges students face whether they are in third grade, junior high or college. My office is conveniently located on Main Street in New City, and I have an extensive library, computers, printers, media and other resources available for student use. I can also teach how to access all types of web-based material, use educational technology, conduct literature reviews, and find other academic sources. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

I have been teaching Criminology/Criminal Justice at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, NY for quite a few years. I am well versed in Criminological theory and Criminal Justice practices. I am also familiar with the requirements of Criminal Justice programs.

Elementary (K-6th)

Early in my teaching career I taught in an elementary school for a few years. I then moved on to teaching high school and for the past two decades I have taught students at a community college. I am familiar with the elementary school curriculum and I can tutor in all subjects germane to grade one up to college-age students.

Social Studies

I have been teaching social science courses at the community college level for 30 years. I have taught sociology, urban studies, psychology, criminology, community health, drugs and society, the family, social problems, contemporary American society, etc. I have graduate degrees in social science. I also teach educational classes in alcohol and drug abuse.

Sociology

I have over two decades of experience teaching social science courses including sociology. I have taught many types of sociology courses including Introduction to Sociology, Urban Sociology, Sociology of the Family, Medical Sociology, Women and Society, Sociology of Religion, Deviance, Culture & Society, Race and Ethnicity and Social Problems. In addition, my doctorate is in Sociology.

SPSS Review
