About Alicia

I am the owner/operator of my own Educational Services business and I am a certified teacher and a homechool teacher in Warwick. I tutor children ages K-9th grade in the surrounding areas of Orange County. However, I have experience as an after-school tutor for 5th graders in ELA and Math for the Middletown CIty School District and I have been teaching students ages 3-13 since I was 16. As a teacher, I enjoy finding new ways of teaching children to learn besides just the old fashioned pen and paper. I have a Master's from New York Institute of Technology in Instructional Technology for the classroom and I am currently taking classes in Art Therapy.

I believe children can succeed in anything they do with dedication, focus, confidence and positive thinking. When a teacher integrates a child's interests with encouragement,, students are more likely to be engaged for success.

I enjoy tutoring and I have found that the one-to-one atmosphere allows students to become more self-aware of who they are and what helps them succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Growing up with siblings and cousins who have ADD/ADHD, I understand the needs and skills it takes for students to be comfortable with their teacher/tutor for success. I've tutored children with ADD/ADHD and acquired skills and techniques to help these children learn. Children with ADD/ADHD have the abilities and intellect to learn, they just need to be refocused and motivated in the right direction.

Aspergers

As a teacher/tutor, I have experience working with students with Aspergers. I have taught students with special needs in reading, writing and math and enjoy spending time with them and learning about their interests. I believe incorporating a curriculum with their interests in mind, can really help them refocus and expand their knowledge in so many ways. These students are intellectual and heart-warming that just need people to understand them on a personal and professional level for further success.

Autism

Children on the Autism spectrum are highly intelligent in one academic skill or overall subject. These students need schedules to help them succeed. A consistent approach is always best for students with Autism with an integration of their interests. I have experience tutoring and teaching students with Autism as well as had the opportunity to be their aide. I know with consistency, these students can flourish is so many ways.

Dyslexia

Students with Dyslexia need redirection. They have the acquired skills for learning, but need different techniques or approaches to be successful. Many times, students with Dyslexia need organization and set schedules to help them refocus. I have experience tutoring and teaching students who are Dyslexic and acquired the necessary skills to help these children succeed.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and I am a certified teacher for grades 1-6 for New York and K-8 for Arizona. I wrote my own curriculum for Preschool and enjoy teaching children ages 3-13. I am passionate about what I do and I know that any child can learn through their own learning abilities.

English

I am a certified teacher for grades 1-6 in New York and K-8 for Arizona. With a Bachelor's Degree in English with emphasis in Education, I enjoy teaching students the necessary skills to make English fun.

ESL/ESOL

I have a certificate in TESOL/TEFL and have been teaching students of various ages to learn the English language. I also have a Bachelor's in Education with a concentration of English.

Phonics

With experience teaching and tutoring children ages 3-5 and being a preschool teacher, I have the acquired skills to help children with phonics. I am pursuing a Masters in Instructional Technology that will help me gain more knowledge of technology for the classroom which also involve the integration of phonics for children. Phonics are the building blocks of reading and is crucial for students to become a good reader and writer.

Special Needs

Students with special needs need guidance and redirection for academia. They are intellectual and eager to learn and need someone with the right motivation and patience. I student taught in an inclusive classroom and had hands-on experience helping students with special needs succeed.

Study Skills

I am enrolled in a Master's Program for Instructional Technology where I am acquiring study skills for students in K-12 with a technology emphasis. The skills I've learned will help students acquire the necessary skills they need for studying. I plan to implement technology into my sessions and help children organize their thoughts and notes with some studying techniques to help them achieve. With the right studying techniques, any student can and will succeed.
