About Michael

I am an energetic 25 year old professional Musician and tutor in the Hudson Valley. I have a dual Bachelor's from SUNY New Paltz in Jazz Performance and Finance. I needed to complete a rigorous set of requirements for these programs including numerous semesters of applied drum lessons, theory, composition, and ensembles. In addition to this, I completed various finance, management, accounting, statistics, and computer Excel courses for my Business degree. All of the skills I attained from my studies can now be utilized in my tutoring sessions.

I currently teach private drumset, piano, and theory lessons and am looking to further my workload with music and finance tutoring. I am an upbeat and passionate person who wants to help my students progress and accomplish their goals. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or inquiries. Thank you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drums

I have been playing drums for over 15 years now and I have been in over 15 different bands, ranging from rock, jazz, pop, folk, blues, Latin, and death metal. I have a bachelors degree in jazz performance with a concentration in jazz percussion. This was a rigorous five year program which included 8 semester of private lessons which taught me the nuance of brush playing, dynamics, touch, musicianship, technique, and coordination. I was also required to be in 8 semester of jazz ensemble which reinforced the concepts I learned in applied lessons and on the stage with my numerous bands. I currently teach over 50 students a week on drums or piano.

General Music

I have a Bachelors degree in Jazz Performance from SUNY New Paltz. I have taken Theory 1, 2, and 3, as well as Jazz Theory 1 and 2. I am a professional musician in the Hudson Valley and have a studio of 35 piano and drum set students. I have been performing and educating for more than 10 years.

6/8 refers to 6 beats per measure, and the eighth note gets one pulse.

A C7 chord is C-E-G-Bb.

Piano

I began taking piano lessons at the young age of 9. I have 15 years of piano experience, and I currently have over 20 private students on piano. My teaching method is a mixture of theory, performance, sight reading, and of course having fun. I like to work with famous classical pieces such as Fur Elise, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Moonlight Sonata, etc. as well as use modern pieces such as Clocks (Coldplay), Someone like you (Adele) to spark my students interests. I don't believe in the cookie cutter teaching method, and I cater to each of my students needs.
I am proficient in rock, jazz, funk, blues, Latin, and classical piano. I have a bachelors in music from SUNY New Paltz and I am looking to expand my body of students.
