I have been a teacher in the NYC public school system. I received a Master's degree in guidance and counseling. My formal Hebrew education started in elementar school and continued through my graduation for college. My informal Hebrew education included Camp Massad, Camp Ramah (both Hebrew-speaking camps), Hebrew studies in United Synagogue.
Currently I am teaching Hebrew at a south shore Long Island synagogue. I teach all aspects of Hebrew and Judaic studies. My work includes remedial as well as advanced classes. In the past four years I have devoted my time to developing methods of teaching Hebrew that are motivating, relevant, and enjoyable for my students. My students learn to read and understand what they are reading. The also are motivated by being taught the meaning of all topics that they are studying. It is one thing to teach how to read. It is another to teach how to understand what they are reading and saying in conversational Hebrew.
When Hebrew is approached in the proper manner it is a very easy lanuage to learn. Most of my students are able to hold a Hebrew conversation at he end of my first class. I use internet and computer material to make the study of Hebrew easy and enjoyable. I have been on a quest to find the most up to date and relevant material and techniques to make learning Hebrew a pleasurable experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive understanding of Hebrew as a Modern Language. I have a degree in teaching and counseling. And I have taught Hebrew on Long Island for the past five years. I taught college level Hebrew and I am proficient in both biblical Hebrew, reading, writing and understanding. I have developed new techniques in learning Hebrew for children in elementary and middle school.
