About Jason

I am motivated by the ability to see others understand aspects in life better. This takes hard work and dedication in order to ensure success on both ends. I truly enjoyed the positive impacts I made on students while teaching 2 semesters of pre-calculus/calculus recitation sections and tutoring mathematics for over 3 years. Creativity was expanded through my passion of sign language incorporation in theatre, which is evident through my work as an Assistant Director for a RIT/NTID performance and ASL translation team member for my church's high school play. My insights of the needs of students is continuously developed simultaneously working behind the scenes in various educational aspects. With my instructional experiences, theatrical background, and well-rounded insights, I believe I have what it takes to ensure students triumphs in their learning process.

Qualified in over 50 subjects, my strength is breaking information down into small manageable components to better master concepts. I like to help through practice problems and utilize stimulating, sometimes challenging, methods.

The primary goal is to ensure the student succeeds. Patience may be needed in the tutoring process to measure satisfaction. I am open to feedback, so please feel free to indicate when a certain method/approach may not work for you. Each student has unique needs and I can adjust accordingly. If fruitful attempts have been made and a clear statement is made that satisfaction is still not achieved, you will not be billed for that session.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve great success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I obtained a perfect score on the AP American History examination, and studied Urban Youth in college. I also enjoy learning from television documentary programs on history. The roots of American History shapes how today's life is, and my ability to interconnect different aspects will be useful here for your success.

I have obtained a 4 on the AP Biology examination, and aced graduate-level Computational Biology. I was also published for my involvement in a nationwide genetic analysis workshop. I believe I can provide insights for those who seek help with introductory biology, or encouragement in breaking things apart to study more advanced topics.

I was originally a Bioinformatics major for a few years before I transferred to Applied Mathematics and Statistics. I have training in both Biological Sciences and Statistics. I also participated in a statistical genetic research internship where I had a paper published in collaboration with other statisticians.

Common Core

For almost a year, I worked for an educational publishing company classifying questions for the Common Core standards in elementary and middle grades. I also work confidentially behind the scenes for over a year with standardized examinations aligned upon these standards. With these, I am able to provide successful insights into the challenging nature of this new nationwide curriculum. I can help those who struggle with mastery of topics within these areas, or in understanding the expectations of each grade level.

Discrete Math

With an MS Degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, I have aced a wide variety of courses related to graph theory, discrete mathematics, and combinatorics in college. I believe I can assist students in grasping a better understanding of these concepts.

Finite Math

In college, I aced a course in Finite Mathematical Structures. I have also taken basic computer science and discrete mathematics courses, which allows me to develop deeper insights. These understandings, combined with my ability to explain concepts, will permit me to be an effective tutor in this subject.

Hard Of Hearing

As an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing and graduated in the top 3% of a hearing school, I can truly help improve the education of those with my physical condition.

Linear Algebra

I have taken Matrix Algebra and Applied Algebra with an A in each, along with a B+ in Graduate Linear Algebra. I believe that I can help students succeed with their classes in linear and matrix algebra.

Among the favorite topics in high school algebra/geometry for a tutor with an MS degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, I can help mathematical students with tautologies and logic laws/proofs.

Microsoft Windows

I have been approved for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I also have years of experience utilizing the Microsoft Windows environment and can help individuals who are new to this.

As someone who holds a graduate degree in the area of Applied Mathematics, I understand the key importance of obtaining a strong foundation through all the mathematics. Fractions, order of operations, negatives, and relevant topics appear in each of my courses. With my insights and tutoring experience, I can help encourage a good foundation for both current and future success.

I have taken a wide variety of Regents examinations and have obtained at least a 92 on all examinations taken in high school. I believe I can assist in reducing anxiety for those about to take these examinations.

Sign Language

I have taken five years of one-on-one instruction in American Sign Language and have also highly witnessed sign language interpreting as an individual who is deaf or hard-of-hearing. In addition, I have some practical experience working with translating songs into sign language. I believe I can provide great help to those who desire exposure to the language.

Raised by a writer, I have a natural ability to quickly pick up spelling abilities, and easily recognize when a word is spelled incorrectly even in the complex English language. For students who need to improve their spelling ability for life success, I am able to use innovative techniques to break down the words so that practice can be made to re-construct them.

Study Skills

It takes a great amount of dedication and strong study skills to become successful. Studying takes focus which can be difficult for some individuals. Testing can lead to anxiety for those with poor study skills. With my high cumulative GPA, over 3.5 for both BS and MS degrees, I believe I can teach the amount of skills and knowledge vital for success.

In high school, I was active in 7 out of 8 major productions. I had a signing role as an actor, roles as an extra, dancing roles, lighting and sound crew, theatrical filming, and stage crew experiences. I also signed a song along with chorus for my Senior Variety show. In college, I was then Assistant to the Director for one play and Assistant Director for a performance. I was recently involved as a technical member of the ASL translation team for a performance put on by my place of worship. If you are seeking theater development and advice, ASL translation for the stage, or just someone to help out with a performance, I can provide assistance.
