I have always helped kids with homework since I was a kid myself. In 8th grade my community service hours were spent tutoring children at my school. After that I continued tutoring my friends sisters, brothers, and cousins, all of which were in elementary school. Every year the children passed their grade level and proceeded to the next grade. I help children improve their studying skills, test-taking skills, homework skills, along with time management. I teach children how to work in a timely manner so they finish whatever they are doing with enough time left over to double check their work.
I recently graduated from high school with a 101.5 average. I will be attending York College later this August and I will be studying to become a nurse. The only days I am not available are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday due to late classes. However, I have no classes on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday so I am free at any time during the day up until 5 pm. I usually tutor two hours per day, depending on how much homework and tests the child has. I also help with science projects or any other projects the child has.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took algebra 1 in 8th grade when you are supposed to take it in 9th grade. I also took two years of trigonometry which still uses algebra 1 skills. In 12th grade I took pre calculus, which is a combination of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. So every year I brush up on my algebra skills.
I teach the rules of operations (PEMDAS), how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, how to deal with improper fractions and mixed numbers, and tricks to learn the multiplication tables. Also, problem solving strategies and how to improve homework and test taking skills.
